Meal Trays for Middle and Steerage Passenger

IMTU there is a steerage class of passenger. In G: T Far Trader there is a modularized SPA standardized shipping container (ISO 40’ equivalent) which will hold 4 passengers in steerage level quality.
Visualize a Japanese coffin hotel, stacked 4 in a grid at the aft of a container, with shared fresher, lounge and dining areas in the fore of the container.
My roomie and I were thinking of ways to benefit from human misery….I mean efficiently carry sophonts in ships not fitted for low berths….any way.
We came up with the Tray Design Meal for Traveller, suitable to feed 4 hungry sophonts of average size. These come in self heating or ship based heating packages and contains EVERYTHING you need to feed the sophonts.

the army meal looks like a throw away version of t rations. The t rations were prepacked heavy aluminum steam pans. You dump the whole tray into a pot or garbage can of boiling water. Cooked 30 minutes. Pull tray out and opened. here is where the trouble began. the tray was too awkward for regular table mounted can openers. The lip was too deep for hand held can opener. If had pull rings those would fail and you had to use pliers to pull the lid off.
The army chow looks good and does not need a cook except for portions sizing.

This is what I expect most starcrew and middle passengers eat. High passengers eat better, steerage eat worse (airline food).

BTW, 3rd class (steerage) passengers on a Cunard or Anchor liner in the eary 20th century ate the same food as 2nd class. Just in a less-nice dining room. According to my parents who crossed as children in the 1920s.

Uncle Bob;
IMTU I have Middle and Steerage eat the same food, the setting is nicer for Middle, they have more personal reoom and they actually get served, instead of having in made available for them.
Middle share a fresher with their cabin mate, Steerage share a fresher with 3 other people. Middle get beds, while Steerage get Japanese style coffin hotel cubes.
