Mecha Crusade & Gamma World

BluWolf

SOC-12
In the recent Dungeon/Polyhedron, there is a mini-game in there called Mecha Crusade. It offers a set of rules compatible with the D20 modern rules for a GM to run a Manga/Mecha campaign.

A few issues back they did the same thing with Gamma World. Though, that one was more geared to basic D20 rather than D20 Modern.

Has anyone looked at this stuff and seen any applicability to T20??

Flipping through the Mecha Crusade article it seemed a nice way to do some big powered armor?

Big Mecha is not my cup o' tea for hard Sci-Fi but I thought it showed some potential.

And Gamma World should provide an easy way for Refs to do mutations.

I've seen some of the mecha designs on the ENWorld boards. The T20 vehicle design system can do similar things, though T20 isn't as focued on the Mecha aspects.

I haven't seen the Gamma world article, but I have seen ealier incarnations of Gamma world, and there the Mutation were an excuse for introducing Magical Powers into the game. They may work for you, but I'd be really reluctant to introduce them.

I am not interested in the "magical" aspect of Gamma World but I definately see your point. Give the average player an inch in options and he will port that to a parsec.

I do think it can be used to create some nasty mutant bug type scenarios or planets full of atmomic zombies,..............

for Traveller purposes, you'll get more critter mileage out of the two Monster Manuals with their Vermin, Animals, Dire Animals, and Dinosaurs. Scramble in the Warbeast and Half-dragon templates (and the multi-headed template from the WotC website) and you'll be able to keep the PCs frightened of things that go bump in the night...

For mecha, I haven't really looked at the Dungeon article in depth yet, though I did look briefly at the PrCs offered and decided they weren't particularly good for T20 unless you wanted to stretch the whole TL concept like taffy.

Gamma World is post-apocalyptic fantasy. I like it, but not really to mix with Traveller...

But it can be useful as a plug-in for your T20 universe, if you fancy that sort of things. Forgive me if I do not know what is a proper Traveller universe.

What I do know is with T20, one can make a very close copy of MechWarrior RPG in d20.

Well, some mutations have the same effect as spells. But in all likelihood, it's a mutation in that world despite the mechanics. Again, I do not know what is a proper Gamma World or Omega World (the title of the mini-game) setting.

I agree! That was one of the driving ideas behind the orginal (now called "Classic") Traveller. That you could make your own scince fiction campgain with it. Whether it is a Star Trek like world, or a post apocaliptic world, or based on your favorite book or movie! I think T-20 has done a wonderful job of carrying on this tradition. Much more so than some of the other versions have done.

Yes!Yes!Yes!Yes!Yes!Yes!Yes!Yes!Yes!
That is just the thing. The cross platform and OGL joy that will make Traveller T20 THE default Sci-Fi D20 setting!
