MegaTraveller Aliens Book Vol. 3

zonk

SOC-12
I stopped collecting Traveller stuff about the time MegaTraveller came upon the scene. I recall looking at ship construction and thinking it was too much work.

Later, decades later, I came back to Traveller and collected most of MegaTraveller and some of TNE.

Background to this question laid.

Somewhere or other I came across Deep Shadows adventure by Mike Mikesh. The intro sez:
The only references required for play is the MegaTraveller rules set.
Other recommended references are the World Builder's Handbook, Referee's
Companion, and most especially MegaTraveller Aliens Book Vol. 3, The
Psionic Races: Zhodani and Droyne.
uh... I dunno know of any Alien books for Megatraveller. I went to the Far Future website to see if it was listed there but I always find FarFuture confusing. There is a picture showing what is in the CD. I recognize most of the book covers but there are 3 fuzzy pictures titled something 1, something 2, DRAFT something 3.

In the course of writing this missive I recalled that DGP wrote the Alien books for MegaTraveller and that book 3 was only in draft mode at the time DGP and GDW went their separate ways.

So this question changes from, were there any MegaTraveller Alien books to have the DGP Alien books been added to the MegaTraveller CD? And if they haven't what are the three titles shown on the CD graphic?

The DGP MegaTraveller books are under a different copyright holder and can't be reprinted at this time. Also, the Aliens book 3 was never finished.

I forget their names off the top of my head, but the three titles are the print material for the MegaTraveller Computer Game software (2 released, 1 was in production).

MegaTraveller Aliens Book Vol. 3, The Psionic Races: Zhodani and Droyne was the third planned book on aliens that DGP had for MT. It was never published.

The first two books, though, like most things published by DGP, are cover-to-cover excellent.

I looked them up at Amazon.

MegaTraveller Aliens Book Vol. 1, The Coreward Races: Vilani & Vargr

$40 bucks, btw, is a great price for this long out of print book.

MegaTraveller Aliens Book Vol. 2, The Rimward Races: Solomani & Aslan

Yeah, this one is priced like normal DGP stuff. It's pretty high, at $159 for a used copy.

Ah! Thanks for the reply.

Now I wonder  why a book that only a very few cognoscenti have ever seen would be listed as a recommended resource? :nonono:

Oh well, I like pie too. I recommend it :smirk:

It was, for a while, released for free by the publisher, as a download.

Fuzzy #1 is a synopsis of a PC game called MegaTraveller 1: The Zhodani Conspiracy.

Fuzzy #2 is a synopsis of MegaTraveller 2: Quest for the Ancients.

The draft is for MegaTraveller 3: Unknown Worlds.

You're talking about the game, MegaTraveller 3, right? Not the third DGP Alien book. Correct?

Any of the MT computer games.

As for MT Aliens Vol 3... I've heard from Roger Sanger (back in 98) and seen posted by Gary Fugate, that it only got as far as an outline for approval. No "There" there to find. And, really, I was looking forward to it - 2 of my 4 favorite races, together in one volume, given the DGP treatment.

(the other two, Virushi and Newt, weren't slated for DGP treatment.)

The GURPS treatment of the Virushi is essentially a restatement of the JTAS article, so they remain undeveloped, in effect. Not that they need a lot. That article said most of what needs to be said about them.

If you compare the CT aliens book to the MT aliens books by DGP - it wouldn't take much work on anyone's part to gin up an equivalent. It would be tedious, but it could be done.
