MGT Ship Designs

I would like to see stats (and pictures, oh yes precious..) for new ships designed with the MGT ship design system, either the basic system, or the new High Guard. I will attempt to gun something up myself.

Won't they NEED deckplans, too?
I thought that it was some sort of MGT rule that every ship must have a deckplan. ;)

While deckplans would be cool, I ain't gonna shoot for the moon. Just some more designs would be nice.

I have an idea in the back of my head for a fleet of spacegoing...museums of Imperial History that visit new member worlds and other places to help educate the populace about the Imperium.

maybe something like in the riddick movies that the necromongers had. A ship that looks like a huge ornate museum on the outside and can make landings on a planet.

What a cool idea, allen!

Although, The insurance people might go crazy with that idea. Landing a museum would be cool as hell, but would have elements of risk.

risk in the landing procedure itself, and risk of the given planetary environment that it would land on (local wars, natural disasters, who knows.)

A museum ship that would stay on orbit, and use orbit to surface shuttles might be one way of cutting back on the chance of Imperial Art or Artefacts being destroyed in an accident or by intent.

That makes more sense, actually... the museum stays in orbit and the visitors are brought up in shuttles.

Hi,

This might be getting a little of on a tangent, but your post reminded me of something I read along time ago about a ship the UK used as part of their "Festival of Britain" after the Second World War. Looking on the internet it appears that this was meant kind of as a way to inspire the nation to look forward after the long and devastating war. Something like that might be suitable in a Traveller setting especially after either the 5th Frontier War or the Solomoni Rim War, etc.

Here are a couple Wikipedia links to the Festival and the ship, HMS Campania.

I was told to take a look at this thread, and it is indeed the kind of thread
that can lure me back to this forum. :D

An excellent idea !

The Colonial Office of my setting's Solar Federation could use something like
this to strengthen the cohesion of the Federation, in a similar function as the
Hiver embassy ships, by showing the common cultural heritage of all the pla-
nets settled by humans.

I am very much looking forward to your design of a museum ship, and of
course to all the other interesting ship designs this thread may bring. :D

I'm thinking of the security issues something along the lines of a huge traveling smithsonian exhibit were to be targeted by a Traveller Party out to make a huge profit off a heist.

Visitor shuttles would give security a buffer. It would make it hard for people to swipe Cleon II's Firetruck, though it would be a rockin' adventure!

Maybe not a museum, but part exhibit / recruiting office. This was kind of the thought I had when someone asked about uses for old Scout ships. Clean them out, fill them with displays / propaganda and drop them on a planet somewhere.

You probably would not have any major relics or really important artifacts aboard. It would primarily be filled with data, on some media, and replicated artifacts.

Of course an interstellar book mobile is probably not what you have in mind. It would be more cost effective, and less a target for conventional piracy or robbery. But not as cool.

Cleon II's Firetruck which iis in the Imperial Musium is a FAKE I took the origional and sold it to a Zhodani for 500,000 imperial credits. I replaced the original with an Exact copy made from an Anciet Artifact that was able to replicate small Red Toys. The Ancient artifact then imploded hampering my ability to replicate the entire line of Toy Fire Trucks that were owned by members of the royal familys.

Philosophical question: If it's an exact copy, with no way to tell it apart from the original, is it a copy at all? Are there not just two originals now?

Hans

Depends on your definition of 'exact' - which is a pretty pointless discussion that I don't intend to waste time on. A single round of humour was enough. :)
