Name generator & Writing project management

I found an interesting program last week that I have been testing out. Its a program called Scrivener by Literature & Latte, they label it a content-generation tool. I would rather call it a content management tool although it does have a great name generator built in.

Here are some sample names I generated on the fly. Lots of options to choose from. I chose Russian first names with double Dutch surnames for my sample.

You can import all kinds of files for research and reference. I have so much stuff in PDF its nice that you can open them up in Scrivener and then split the screen and take notes, etc. It has a nice way of showing information in an old style index card format as well. Lots of tools for moving text information around between documents and full projects.

Looks like an interesting program and I might even be able to justify it for my writing too. I would really like to hear how you progress with it for Traveller as well.

I use Scrivener extensively for my doctoral program.

Great program, which I have used for both large-format theses and smaller writing and research assignments alike. Among many excellent features I especially like the Compile feature, which allowse to keep the formatting separate from the content - i can submit a paper in MLA format or in Journal-ready formal with citations, footnotes, and everything 'just so', without wasting time reformatting. It also has an excellent sync capability, which let's me keep a page of plaintext or rtf files in dropbox and edit them using any text editor or iPhone app, ready for instant sync back to Scrivener.

Highly recommend it, but I haven't used it for gaming purposes yet (not as much time since I went back for my PhD).

Still finding out more about this program. I was compiling all the Amber Zones and I copied and pasted a a table from a web page off of rpgnet listing them. It kept the url links interesting. I guess you could setup links externally and internally.

Highly recommend it, but I haven't used it for gaming purposes yet (not as much time since I went back for my PhD).

My first thought was that I could use it for my PhD too. My second thought was that there was not much point since I shall submit later this year! Still, with several other writing projects in the pipeline and my gaming interests too, I reckon it could prove worthwhile, especially when looking at what has been done with it.

While Scivener might be a good for content management, for writing you should check out yWriter. I'm in a novel writing group and members who have used both say they prefer it. (Plus it's free.)

I have both Scrivener and yWriter, and I really love Scrivener for organization. I haven't used either long enough to know if yWriter is a better program for writing, though I do like it's features and look and feel.
