Nice sentiment at least Zanrain but I think the feature was disabled in the latest update (though I could be wrong, feel free to test it on mine if you want as I never turned it off, I tried to do yours as a test and found no way to).

Anyway as was discussed in another thread most of the people who put up a bit of creative work here are more likely to be thrilled by one personal "thanks" than all the stars in the Imperium

So hey let me add my kudos kiddo, nice one Lisagb :D

This was great!

Can we post stuff like this then? Would it be a viable section of the site, or elibrary, or are there OGL/d20 legalities involved?

Just curious - I'd love to see a lot more of these.

Now then for the critique ;)

I'm not sure about the Weapon proficiency - Swordsman feat. I don't know any western law enforcement forces that train it, though a lot may be familiar with hunting knives just from background.

One thing I think I'd like to see is some form of disarm specialization. Maybe that's what you were going with on the Unarmed feats (to apply to riot-baton use).

I'd probably add Shield Proficiency for the same riot action training.

I'd also add Tactics I (see Army, Marine or Mercenary) for standard raids and entries.

Looks pretty good though, will cover all the way from raw recruit to chief of dectectives I think.

I guess someone will have to add the Prestige class of SWAT next ;) (hmm, Sniper, Tactics II, Stealthy, Armor Proficiency - Medium, Far Shot, Precise Shot, Point Blank Shot, ??? ...

Hmm. I do run into the problem with my group when they justify to me class skills or feats not included in the current character class listing.

I just handwave it if they make a good point and say "swap it out with another feat/skill" and things go well from there, usually.

Yeah your right scrap swordsman feat i thought it covered weapons like batons an stuff.
Tactics and shield yeah shove em in the bonus feats bit.

While we,re on the subject. Why does the Imperium not have an Interstellar police force?
Surely the navy or the Secret Service are out of their depth trying to track down serial killers, organised crime syndicates etc?

The Imperium has the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) who are responsible for law enforcement of Imperial crimes (piracy, slaving, weapons of mass destruction, etc). They work with the Navy and other services quite a lot in thier duties. The also get involved with local crimes of Imperial members if it involves an Imperial crime or one of such severity, or if they are asked. Basically they are like the FBI in a lot of ways.

Law Enforcer is one of the new classes that will be in the upcomming T20 Players Guidebook. Ask MJD about it nicely, and he might let you playtest ;)

Are there any guidelines in how to construct a new character class? For instance, what determines the number of skill points a class receives every level? What about the number of class skills? Feats? BAB and Saves?

Hi there,

For those of you interested here is a little preview of the Law Enforcer service class from the Player's book. I'd have posted something sooner but I had to seek out MJD's permission first...

So, onward:

LAW ENFORCER
Service Class

There are many types of Law Enforcer, from beat cops to detectives, from corporate security officials to bounty hunters and skip tracers. What they all have in common is a mission to keep the peace and enforce the rules (though the laws they uphold may be very different, depending upon their background). Most Enforcers start out in an organized police or security unit, and most stay there. Those that move on to freelance work often operate on the fringes of the law themselves, breaking a few rules to keep the general peace or to eliminate serious felons.

Some enforcers have a narrow field of interest, for example the skip tracers who reposess stolen starships on behalf of their owners, while others are general upholders of the law and keepers of the peace. Not all Law Enforcers are “official. Some are contracted mercenaries and others are simply vigilantes.

Law enforcers need to be capable of dealing with violent situations, so often have good combat skills. Knowledge of relevant law and some “street” skills are useful too.

Characteristics: An Enforcer’s outlook varies according to their background. A vigilante might be motivated by a strong code of conduct and a desire to right some (or every!) wrong. A professional security or police officer will normally respect the laws they uphold and the society that those laws protect, and generally find crime and criminals of all kinds distasteful. Bounty Hunters and Skip Tracers may simply work for the money, and actually be more or less criminals themselves.

Background: Law Enforcers can come from any background. Detectives and senior or specialist officers often have a university education, while many street cops, security personnel and bounty hunters are ex-military.

Adventuring: Law enforcers are sometimes assigned to pursue dangerous felons, or may make a living as freelance security operatives or bounty hunters. Ex-law enforcement personnel may well find their streetwise, weapons and technical skills useful during a life of adventure after their careerhas ended.

The class skills are the sort you would expect to find with no surprises. The LE gets 5 skill points per level base.

BAB is something less than the Rogue as most officers aren't generally highly trained in combat, though the Martial Training Feat is a class Feat to represent SWAT training or simlar. Will and Fortitude saves are good.

Feats-wise the list is what you would expect, with a good mix of combat and non-combat feats suited to the unique role of cops, and a few cool new class feats, such as Control and Restraint, Presence, and Street Smart. The last one is gonna be very useful for a lot of Law Enforcers:

Street Smart: The Enforcer is familiar with the underside of civlization, and gains a +2 bonus on all Sense Motive or Gather Information checks when dealing with the lower end of the social spectrum, whether in an official capacity or not. In some quarters (at the Referee’s discretion) this feat may also cause “street people” to react better to the enforcer than to other “uncaring cops” since he or she speaks their language and comes over as one of them rather than an outsider.

Hope this little teaser is of interest. 'Course, no body has even mentioned the other new core class yet...

(disclaimer - All information is accurate to the last draft I got)

The other new class? Well, to be accurate there are three new classes - Law Enforcer and two others. There is a good chance Psionicist may be one of them, yeah.... ;)

I'm on the playtest team and there's many new classes. You no longer have to multi-class to kludge together the 'feel' of a character class that is not in the THB. MJD do we have permission to tell them what the classes are? (Besides Law Enforcer of course ;-P)

I've been playing around with the Law Enforcer class and I like it. You can do everything from beat cop to private investigator to MoJ agent.

I think I can guess one of them. Medic, Right? If not, then I deman...er..um humbly suggest that it be added. ;)

Medic isn't one of them, and to my mind not needed as an independant entity - the Professional class can put a medic together no problems (with maybe a level or two of Academic for a medical degree if appropriate).
