New Paranoia Press Books

I was browsing drivethrurpg.com for the first time this year and I spotted a couple of titles from Paranoia Press that I was previously unaware of. Does anyone have any good or bad things to report about their output? I'm especially curious about a) the Scouts & Assassins book and b) the book on Merchants.

Both good books worth having. I especially like their take on failed survival throws.

Now you know where Mongoose got the idea for their chargen background rules.

Hmm, there's also a free guide to Paranoia Press products that mentions Apocrypha CD-2. It sounds like we may see that in the next few months perhaps? I wonder what else will be on it (Judges Guild?).

There's also this from FFE:

CDROM Contents Licensed Traveller Judges Guild plus (in preparation)

Tantalising, no? :D I wonder what the 'plus' means...

Yea, that FFE note that a JG CD-ROM was in preparation was part of my speculation that JG and Paranoia Press materials might wind up on the same CD-ROM. I could see one or two other small press product lines sharing the CD-ROM also.

I will wait patiently, though I think I had at least one of the Paranoia Press books back in the day.

I have both of these books from back in the day and also have SORAG (all released in the 80's).

All of these books were quite good IMHO and fleshed out the professions/careers of SCouts and Merchants in a simlar style (if simplified) manner to Mercenary (for Army and Marines) and High Guard (Navy). GDW did of course later prodcue Scouts and Merchant Prince - but for some reason I never really got into then (late on in my Taveller career and with most friends off to different Unis it left things a bit flat).

Assassins (from Scouts and Assassins) was a bonus profession done in much the same style as Book 1 and Supplement 4 ,and you did get a nice enough floorplan of the Serpent Class Scout Ship - a different take on the Type S Scout ship (and details of a 150 ton type).

Merchants and SORAG had some addtional equipment listed in them as well for good measure.

They were some good supplements. My campaign was ( & is still ) largely based off PP's Beyond & Vanguard Reaches. I did change some of the planetary names because they were too derived from SF books & names. I felt a little uncomfortable with that. Until I acquired the expanded Scout book, I preferred generating Scout characters from Scouts & Assassins instead of the core GDW book. The SORAG book was great.

Scout & Assassins, Merchants, Sorag, Beyond, & Vanguard Reaches. I've had them since the mid-1980s, and use them a lot.

Recently I've been doing more with Reavers' Deep Sector (the last campaign I ran was centered there), but I still play with the other two sectors as well.

I used to have Vanguard but someone stole it:mad:.I've tried to find Reavers' but no luck so far.

What I've got for Reavers' Deep is:
A Pilot's Guide to the Drexilthar Subsector (Gamelords) [detailed supplement describing all the worlds and the history of the subsector];
A Pilot's Guide to the Ea Subsector (Far Traveller #1) [map and UWP list, and an extensive write-up & adventure for the world of Roakhoi];
A Pilot's Guide to the Scotian Deep Subsector (Far Traveller #2) [map and UWP list only];
A Pilot's Guide to the Caledon Subsector (Traveller Chronicle #5) [This has a statement that "the pages that follow describe all 29 of the worlds in this subsector", but only 6 worlds are described. Map & UWP list included]

These are the center 4 subsectors in the sector.

Is there more material on Reavers' Deep out there? If so, where was it published?

The Caledon Guide was continued in subsequent issues of TTC. The only other Reaver's Deep material I know of was the Sector Guide to the Deep released by Cargonaut Press.

Gamelords released two adventures. The Drenslaar Quest, set on Yahrfahl (Reaver's Deep 2228), and Ascent to Anekthor, set on I don't know where but I think it was in Reaver's Deep too.

GT:Alien Races 4 has a writeup of the Virushi. AR5 has a writeup of the Iltharans.
