Note To Self And All And Sundry

From DreadYacht.com perhaps?

An incomplete web page but some interesting drawings and ideas. In MTU the upper Noble class Yachts would (in a small ship 'verse at least) live up to such a name

IIRC my CT Ducal Class Yachts are TL15 and 1Kton armed and armored. Built for a fight in comfort and style with long legs and speed. Jump 6 (requires drop tanks) and 6G gets the Duke where he needs to be on time.

Wouldn't any true warship just swap in ducal suites into the payload bay? Paint it pink, add some fake gold filligree and you're done.

So how big would be ducal suites? 200 dTon at a minimum. 1000 dTon if you want to include a more full entourage (harem, intelligence assets, personal guard and so on) - but that is only my estimate, YMMV

I have a certain big-ship bias, even then that kind of size payload would only need a heavy destoryer (5-10 kdTon) or light cruiser (10-20 kdTon) - so not exactly dread worthy.

I'm embarrassed to say I didn't even check the url...

For a Book 2 or HG small ship universe, I guess a 1kton hull might well be sufficient to crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women while swaddled in the lap of sinful luxury.

Although didn't the whatsit of Dubai have a cruiser converted over to his personal yachtly service? For a bigger ship TU, the OTU even, something like that might not be out of order.

The term DreadYacht brought to mind personal transportation for the Emperor. Would the Emperor, or those tasked with arranging his safety, be happy with a mere Heavy Destroyer? I imagine that people with power and money will want the best speed and protection money can buy, certainly something that can take a pounding from the spinal guns of an ambush task force and still outrun its pursuers - a pocket battleship at the very least.

I was more thinking of a destroyer pack - one of which has the duke on board.

The problem being that any single ship won't be able to survive a significant ambush. If you have a specific excessively custom ducal vessel then it can be picked out much more easily. Smaller in this case means more: An extended DestRon of 20 vessels (~200 kdTon - definitely able to take on any single dreadnaught) would give a much higher survival chance.

DreadRon's get expensive as a personal Taxi. :)

The Imperial Yacht Pax Imperica is 10kt, and has a Batron escort!

Well.

If the HEMperor's Luxury Yacht is 10kt, then it would appear that to break that ceiling for a similar class of ship would be a serious faux pas. No?

I see a market for a class of Ducal Yachts clocking in at 9999.X tons.

You probably want to be a tad more discreet in your display of power if you wish to avoid that social faux pas :smirk:

Say maybe 5Kt tops to allow room for perception.

That 10Kt sits surprising well in my old CT small ship 'verse with the standards* for Noble Yachts.
