Operational depth

I think this may have been addressed in a JTAS or Challenge issue, but, my memorie's a little hazy. Starships can refuel from oceans and gas giants via skimming, or sitting in a lake, ocean or what not. But, can they dive, and if so, then what is their operational depth? I seem to recall that certain SDBs and PCs can hide underwater, but I'm not hip to how.

Years back I wrote a couple of stories where the ships submerge ever so briefly.

Any references would be greatly appreciated.

There's an early JTAS that covers underwater combat...but my memory is hazy too.

JTAS 9 covers the gas giant and in-system tactics, but it didn't have anything of great depth (no pun intended).

Weren't we just having nearly this same conversation just a little down this page?

From that thread:
Not sure how this fits in but CT Adventure 12 (p18) states ...

Commercial vessels (traders, merchants, liners) can withstand up to 1,000° K and up to 1,000 atmospheres. Military vessels can handle temperatures to 1,500° K and pressures to 2,000 atmospheres. System defense boats are specifically constructed to handle temperatures to 2,500° K and pressures to 3,000 atmospheres.

Regardless of whether or not the figures are bogus, it's interesting that commercial, military, and SDBs are rated differently.

CT Adventure 12 = Secret of the Ancients

At 1G, 33' (~10 meters) of water depth = 1 atmosphere pressure (plus starting atmospheric pressure at sea level).

SDB underwater combat rules are in Seastrike by Marcus L. Rowland, JTAS #22.

The rules do not mention any depth limit, but the accompanying adventure The Thing in the Depths does mention an SDB "resting on the bottom" in a location where the bottom is later listed as 300 meters.
