I was recently looking over the new arrivals at my FLGS when I stumbled across a science-fiction RPG named PAX DRACONIS. As I paged through the nearly 300 pages of content, the depth and quality of the product really impressed me. It "appears" to incorporate concepts similar to several other game engines and settings, but the whole is very slick. Although the character mechanics are conventional, the game is a fusion of DP9's Silhouette engine and the player classes common to OGL and other RPGs. The setting is vaguely "Star Wars" with the Draconian Empire and the People's Republic, but the background history is more like the mini-series "V" (without the carniverous tendencies, and on a galactic scale). The technology and hard sf feel are all "Travelleresque".
The 300 page softcover rules and setting were created by Justin Dagna, and published by Technicraft Design of Seattle, WA. All of the inside art is B&W sketch and line, and ranges from excellent to poor.
I'm thinking of using Pax Draconis as an alternate reality setting for my Traveller players, and I'd be interested in hearing the opinions of others who've looked at or purchased the product.
