Planet III Traveller Navigator

Traveller

SOC-12
I was rooting around Freelance Traveller's Software List and came across the Traveller Navigator sectors available there. Are these add-ons to a main program or are the sectors the program itself?

If these are add-ons to the main program, does anyone know where I can find the main program (was released as freeware some time ago)?

TY. I have TNE so it's not that limiting. I'm not sure it's something I'd want to do, but I do believe the help file which makes up the meat of the Traveller Navigator could be recompiled into something a bit more useful to the rest of us that play Traveller, and not TNE.

Probably not as big as you might think though. The only thing that really would be necessary would be a help compiler, either the old and outdated winhelp compiler for Windows 3.1, or the HTML based compilers for Win 9x/NT/2000/XP.

I've gone through the Spinward Marches file, and there's little mechanics conversion necessary from what I see. All that really need be done is a lot of typing, as you're basically transcribing info from the LBBs into the help file. A scanner would be helpful in this instance.

1. Charts: There is LBB Traveller data if I recall for all of the sectors covered by Traveller Navigator, so mapping isn't a problem.

2. Glossary: Could be folded in with Library Data with little to no impact.

3. Encounters: I don't know if there is a LBB equivalent of the Encounters tables included in TNE, but it's not that difficult to make up one of your own here if one in fact isn't included somewhere in the LBBs.

4. Starship Operations: If there is a LBB version, it should go here. Otherwise, this is one of the few instances where there is a mechanics conversion, but thanks to BITS and their universal task conversion, that's not hard to do either.

5. Ship Stats: Fighting Ships. Nuff said.

6. Starship Combat: Basic Traveller or High Guard starship combat? Hell, put both in there.

7. Tables: The appropriate versions of the LBB Starship combat tables (both basic and High Guard versions) should go here, along with the few miscellaneous tables, such as travel time to 100 planetary diameters and the like.

8. Tasks: No task system in LBB Traveller like MegaTraveller and TNE. This is the one section of the help file I would dump in a heartbeat.

9. Credits: Hey, who made this anyway? Keep this.

I'm honestly not trying to argue here. All I am trying to do is illustrate the point that it really isn't as difficult mechanics wise as you might think. Especially when the mechanics have in most cases been spelled out for you.

It would be worthwhile if someone wanted to do it. The other fun thing is that once they created one help file for one sector, the others could be done lickity split, because I don't believe there is much change between the various Traveller Navigator versions other than the sector map and world data.

BUT...

X is a big headache if you don't have Y time available to do Z quality work.
