A while back, someone mentioned the Psionic Wave that was supposedly going to re-unify the imperium (or some such). They mentioned that the sorceress-like person depicted on the cover of the TNE book was the new empress.

A)Can anyone fill me in on this? (assuming I"m remembering this fragment correctly)
B) Can anyone tell me where to find information about all this?

I don't know about here, but there was a good bit of info from Dave Nilsen posted on my TNE mail list by Loren Wiseman. I've got it nicely formatted and archived at this link.

Silly wave

How can there be such a wave when we have heard nothing about it in earlier versions of traveller? The Zhodani would have known about this and been affected by it for a very long time...

Here is the page on this board with all the nitty gritty details from Dave himself. Unfortunately, it was before one of the software upgrades, so the formatting is kind of mucked up.

I agree, that the whole wavefront through Zhodani space aspect is the big weak link in the chain, especially if you had been running a Zhodani campaign. If you have not been, it isn't terribly hard to think of some kind of handwavium to come up with some kind of an answer, IMO.

To be honest, I"m gathering data for some prophecies generated by a Solomani attempt to create their own version of the Zhodani Map Globe. The Empress wave struck a chord and I wanted to explore that option.

Interesting. So the effect of the Empress Wave on the inhabitants of Charted Space was going to be somewhat akin to the Sixth World / UGE / Goblinization / Comet / SURGE ongoing phenomena in Shadowrun, then.

As Virus was to computers and tech, blurring the line between non-sentience and sentience, so the Empress Wave was going to blur the lines between the organic humans, psionics, aliens and Other - where "Other" was going to be this "Great Being of Psi-Space".

I can live with that.
