At some point I acquired a copy of the T4 book on Psionics, which made for me interesting reading. The question I have is, if that technology to detect Psi is about a thousand years old, what is it now? Can the terminus of Psi activity be detected as well as near the sender, aka possible to detect clairvoyance targeting near you, or an incoming teleport? Would not Imperial Battledress come with Psi detectors standard, at least in the Spinward Marches?
Also, just what is Imperial law on Psi users? Depends on where discovered? Remanded to imperial custody for "impressment" into some shadowy organization if acceptable, or dissapear if not? Not talking about a mob situation BTW, can guess where that would head pretty well.
IMTU I was looking at the Darrians (yes, space elves fascinate me) and decided to roll them up regarding attitudes towards psionics, the results were interesting in that they came up randomly as just short of philia in attitude. When I thought about it, it made sense given the thirst for knowledge that the original supplement described (or so I felt, it's been a while since I read it, need to refresh)
To them it would be just another source of knowledge to be pursued, and given their location near Zhodani space one to be of good use. The one institute I rolled up came up as an incredibly small department of a major university, albiet with impressive knowledge and very good facilities, implying to me that while not unknown as a research field, not a huge one either.
That or my dice were just playing games with me not the other way around
How would the Imperium regard this? It's not like they are a client state. I would think they trade with the Zhodani as much as the Imperium. Both are juggernauts comparatively and I'd not feel comfortable being between them although the star trigger does give them an advantage.
OK, random insomnia musings at 3:00 AM over.
