Retirement

SOC-13
A notice to all who may care.

I am now officially retired from the Air Force after 21 years. I have my DD214 Freedom papers in hand and am ready to begin a new life. Now I can watch CNN and not have to worry about weather or not I will be sent "There". It has been an adventure with many unplanned expeditions to faraway places with strange people having different customs and beliefs. I will carry many memories of people and events for the rest of my life. Luck has led me to witness the individual people at the Berlin Wall when it fell along with the ceremonies at the 50th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy. I regret not being able to remember the names and faces of so many good people I have worked with. Those I do remember are very memorable for different reasons. ;)
The boredom of a long deployment lead me to find this board with so many interesting people with so very different viewpoints. A place where I have been able to stretch my metal muscles and throw out ideas to people who would give well thought out feedback while providing feedback to others.

It is time for me to start a new life and travel new paths, to begin a new career and not shave every morning.
Anyone know where I might find a tramp freighter heading to an exciting destination a few parsecs away? :D

Well remember the adventure does not end there. There of course is regualr employment but think of other possibilities too. Living overseas where your money goes furthur and enjoy the new sights and sounds.

Your post is beautifully written and congratulations on exiting the USAF. Civilian life may seem a little dull at first but the rewards are well worth it unless you decide to join government (think of the unreformed military service - that's low level government jobs).

Hope you will stay in contact with us by arguing your viewpoints and sharing with us the adventures that now lie ahead...and possibly, even begin to write for Traveller (all you need do is take your USAF experiences and change names & dates to protect the innocent). Sprucing it up a bit to make it more cinematic.

Hearing it from a real soldier is the "kick in the pants" this game might need. Although, we have quite a few talented writers who are doing a lot of kicking now (one more won't hurt).

Then we civies can get back to work and write up, real non-military adventures think of the possibilities...FUSION!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
May the road you will now travel be smoother than the one you are turning away from.
May you now find the time and pleasures of gaming regularly with those who share the same passions as you.
May you find a way to share the knowledge and experiences you have gained with those who need them most.
(I helped by being an Assistant Scoutmaster of a Boy Scout troop for 4 years and may go back someday).
May your family now find the blessing of your company as you spend your time with them.
May the PX always have what you are looking for. (on sale of course ;) )
May you always find the shortest check out line at the commissary.
May you always look fondly on the memories of those with whom you served our nation.
May you always find the respect you deserve for the effort you expended in defending our Nation.

You will always be Welcomed here (maybe not respected but welcome ;) )

Remember - Drink! Drink! Drink 'til you Stink! Drink 'til you Stink and Can No Longer Think!

Then go get rich.

*salute*

Greetings, salutations, and thank you for serving your country. May the path you travel now be as rewarding as the previous.

Welcome to the boards, fellow traveller!

Thank you for your replies. My wife was very surprised by your locations all around the world along with your well scripted prose. I have seen how well many of you can string words together, while I learned the military way of bludgeoning a sentence into being.

I was surprised to see Parmasson quoting me on his tag line. Quite the unexpected honor.

I now understand the aging tables much better. It is hard to stay ahead of aging.
I have thought of a few changes to the benefits tables; add
-- Vehicle of appropriate TL
-- 1D6 rolls on the equipment tables
-- Personal contacts

Do not worry that I will disappear from the board. I hope to be able to participate more actively that before. I won't have things like long deployments to get in the way. ;)

I did take the rolls on the cash table, this is Vegas after all.

Now, let chaos reign supreme! Afterall, there is profit in chaos. ;)
