SCIFI on Old Time Radio

OLD TIME RADIO SCIENCE FICTION ADVENTURE!

Over the past 30 years I have never grown tired of listening to old radio shows, especially the old school SciFi programmes once popular in radio's golden age. If anyone has links to others that they have found on the Net, feel free to contribute. Many files are mp3 and can be burned to disk or listened to over the web w/out having to DL them. Of the links provided there are scores of hours of listening, so what are you waiting for? Why just look to TV or those new-fangled talking-picture-shows for inspiration?

FLASH GORDON (NB: These recordings are in rough shape, so be prepared for a lot of pops and hiss in the audio.)

SPACE PATROL (Some of the 'techno-babble' in this show strongly reminds me of terms found in CT!)

X MINUS 1, Part 1

X MINUS 1, Part 2

X MINUS 1, Part 3

PLANET MAN

BUCK ROGERS

BRITISH SCI-FI

TOM CORBETT, SPACE CADET and PART TWO.

DIMENSION X

So, just like tuning in the old tube set out here in the sticks, hoping for some good ionosphere bounce :)

Sweet :D

Another fan here, thanks for the links. I'd found some old black and white TV/movie serials posted on the web once (old Superman, Lone Ranger, that kind of thing) and enjoyed it for a while before it disappeared or I lost the bookmark. Don't recall which. May have to work on my google-fu and see if I can dig them up again and share them.

Had a chuckle at your sig too btw :)

What I've started doing is listening to the shows and simultaneously taking notes, recording (pseudo-)technical talk, story ideas, setting info, &c. which I can put to use in my retro-SciFi CT campaign.

For example, in one ep of Space Patrol the conflict revolves around a strange phenomenon they refer to as a Cycloplex (in fact described very much like a black hole!)

There's also plenty of fodder for careers, skills, and deliciously corny gadgetry like paralyser rayguns, and the brain-o-graph-- --apparently along the lines of a polygraph used in psych evaluations, and so on.

On a related note, I've watched the three old Flash Gordon serials and the Buck Rogers serial to mine it for ideas.

I wonder how many Traveller players go the old school retro- or vintage-SciFi route...

If anyone may be interested in my (upcoming) notes I'd be happy to share them.

Love these. Thanks for the link.

Sometimes, I'll take a drive out to the casinos in Louisiana to play a little poker. It's a 2.5 hour drive. I purchased a couple of old time radio shows to listen to on the journey.

Now...I have more!

Thanks!

Here's a site with some more show downloads:

I'm a bit surprised at how little there is at archive.org. Only an episode or two of most series that they have. I got my collection dumped off of cassette tapes to MP3 a few years ago, I'll have to go through and see what I've got in SF episodes in non-SF series.

Here's a site worth checking out:

Here are a few other free ones I found online:
Ray Bradbury's The Rocket

Aliens in the Mind

Journey to the Center of the Earth
