AHA.. and JOT makes it's appearance.

Initial read looks good. Damn, I'm geting excited again. Makes my anti-WotC vitriol look even more foolish.

Nice. Any prospect of getting the Scout prior history as well, so we can create Scout characters with the T20 Lite rules?

Hunter:
Nice to see a solid treatment of the scout class. From what I’ve seen so far, you guys are batting a thousand. If the rest of the product has this much polish I’m going to have no problem at all getting my non-Traveller/D&D friends interested.

And thanks for the preview. I think I remember reading somewhere that those had stopped with T20-lite. Its nice to have an extra bone to gnaw on while we wait for the actual product.

IMHO, the chief difference between a fool and an opinionated thinker is the ability to change one’s mind in public. (Or at least to be open minded.) I think that you have shown yourself to be the latter rather than the former.

Bravo on the Scout Class. IMHO it really reflects what the scouts were in the LBB.

One nit. The skill points for the scout (4+) seems awfully low compared to the Merchant class (7+). I understand that this may reflect that scouts have no official rank and promotion system, but this is already reflected with the notion that a promotion gives experience. As the scout has no promotions, as per LBB, a slower advance in character levels means lower increase in skill points

True, but it also balances with the improved combat abilities of the scout (max +15 BAB) vs the merchant (max +5 BAB). Don't forget also that the scout has access to JoT.

Makes sense. Then again IMTUs JoT was usually ignored because there was no clear rules on usage. Even now with some rules its rarely used.

Still, a friend and I can't wait for T20.

I have not seen anything about mustering out on the character templates. Am I missing something? Or do they not muster out anymore?

That's resolved in the prior history process, not the character class. Look at the T20 Lite rules; it's made clear there.

First off, what's the reenlistment DC for the Scout class?

Secondly, has anyone created a Merchant/Scout multiclass character with the Prior History rule (from T20 Lite)?

First off- THANKS for posting the Scout. My personal favorite from CT (fits my reclusive tendencies very well, thank you).

I have a question however: Can a Scout become proficient with a weapon such as a Gauss pistol? The two traits available to them: Weapon Proficency: Marksman, and WeapProf:Lasers gives them ability with the excellent (but almost always prohibited and impossible to hide) laser class, and the Marksman allows for everything from revolvers to SMGs (how in the WORLD could you be trained in SMGs which takes a great degree of martial skill to wield effectively but unable to use an auto-rifle or assault rifle which takes far less skill to be proficient with?).

BUT: I want a gauss pistol! I wanna play a scout, AND I wanna gauss pistol without a -2 or -4 to hit! SO! How do you pick up cross-class traits BEFORE you get EVERY SINGLE other trait for your class? Or is this simply not gonna happen and I have to live with a magnum autopistol?

Yes. What you don't see on the Class chart is the bonus feats from the full experience chart, which gives 1 feat per 3 levels. And these can be any feat you like (not just the class features). So at third level (about middle of term 2) you can select any feat you like, including WP:Gauss Pistol.

I don't think the rules say that you cannot get cross-class skills unless you've ranked in all class skills first, so just buy ranks in the applicable skill. If the rules DO state that, then apply House Rule #2: "A minimum of half of your skill points per level must be spent in class skills, remaining skill points may be spent as you wish."

House Rule #1 is "The GM controls his universe; the rulebook is just a bunch of suggestions."

It's not all that much different than an autopistol (certainly less different than an SMG or shotgun).

Assuming that by gaining a feat in a particular Weapons Proficency you are learning not only how to shoot those weapons, but also how to care for and maintain them.

Maintenance of a gauss rifle/pistol would be FAR FAR different than caring for a standard pistol or rifle methinks.

ps - however care for and shooting an assualt rifle is VERY similar to an SMG I would think.

I'll take a stab at this one.

From the list in T20 lite, the feats run to the tune of marksman, combat rifleman, and laser weapons. These seem to correspond to the weapons permit levels found in TA#1. So the marksman feat gives you weapons that would be commonly available to permit level 3 and below (rifles, pistols, shotguns, smg, etc)... a high civilian rating for weapons. Combat Rifleman would then give you access to permit level 4 weapons: ACR, gauss weapons, etc (military grade infantry weapons). Lasers, being horses of differing colors, have their own feat. I'd imagine that there's also a feat for high energy weapons and perhaps level 5 (heavy and support) weapons as well in the full rules.
