SG1 and B5

J. Michael Straczynski has recently said that there is a company doing a new RPG based on B5. No company has made an announcement, though. (My personal and totally unsubstantiated guess would be Eden, since they've done well-recieved Buffy and Star Trek RPGs recently. They use their own Icon system.)

West End Games had a licence to do SG-1, using their D6 engine (same as West End Star Wars). But WEG pretty much collapsed and I think . John Types posted a fair amount of the work he did on an SG-1 game here:

John Tynes Stargate SG-1 RPG

I haven't read it, so I don't know how good it is, but knowing Tynes' rep, it won't be bad.

Actually it was Decipher (formerly Last Unicorn) who did the Star Trek RPG's in the last few years including the new one. They had the ICON system which is now CODA. This system is also used in the new Lord of the Rings RPG.

You might want to check out the Farscape RPG for goodies.

Mea culpa. I'm getting my companies and licenced properties crossed up. Decipher has Star Trek and LotR. Eden has Buffy. AEG (Alderac) has Farscape d20.

(Thanks to Hunter or whoever moved this thread, BTW.)

There was talk on the Raven boards a while ago about getting a Living SG-1 campaign going. They were thinking about using BRP instead of d20 though. I'll have to drop by again to see how it's coming along.

Other than the aforementioned tease of another B5 game, I've heard nothing.

BTW, Raven is a UK based gamers group, sort of like the RPGA.

Actually the ICON Star Trek game was published by Last Unicorn Games who were bought out by WotC. AFter the buy out they hadn't read the small print correctly and Decipher managed to get hold of the Star Trek license and has published their own version using CODA which is compatable with the older ICON system. Most of the Last Unicorn guys ended up at Decipher eventually to work on the Star Trek game I believe.

Also, check out Andy Slacks Halfway Station website for a GURPS-lite driven sourcebook for "SG-13", which is rather good.

I have yet to here anything definintive about official games for either B5 (beyond JMS cryptic comment) or SG-1, although Matt Sprange of Mongoose was intriguingly elliptical in a thread at EN World.

I think a lot of the OGC from T20 would work very well for d20 versions of both (my own half completed B5 game is a variant of CT/MT/T4), particularly the prior history and psionics stuff for B5. But I'm not aware of anyything "official"

Agents of Gaming just closed up shop since they lost the rights to B5, but they did state that someone has the rights to a B5 RPG as Tom said. But they were quiet on just who.
