shallow water explorer questions

I think I've seen something like this before on the discovery channel. Didn't some guy make a sub based on how a fighter jet works?
This is the basic principle behind the shallow water explorer right?
just wondering.

No sure what you saw. Are you thinking maybe of the very cool Innespace Subs?

Yes, it was just over ten years ago that one of the local Bay Area affiliates did a piece on it. I can't recall to much about it other than the design was focused around using the vehicle's momentum rather than ballast to adjust depth. That is to say the fins on the sub were more akin to wings and stabilizers on an airplane, and worked on nearly the same princible. The drawback of course is that said vehicle must constantly move to maintain its depth lest it rise to the surface.

The video of the model I saw was that of a one man craft.

I prefer having to move lest one bob to the surface to having to move lest one sink.

At least I'd be a lot less worried about losing power ;)

Beyond tomorrow stated that production on the two man fighter-like for commercial purchase is due in 2007...

The dolphin-like is due in 2009 or so, IIRC. (Same source.)
