Ok, it looks like this thing is getting the best of me...

Code:
Description Tons MCr
Hull 200 20.00
streamlined 2.00
Jump Drive 25 40.00
Maneuver 7 16.00
Power Plant 13 32.00
Jump Fuel 80
PP Fuel 40
Bridge 20 1.00
Computer 4 30.00
Hardpoints 0 0.20
2x Blaser 2.00
2x Missile 1.50
Single Staterooms 8 1.00
Emer Low Berths 1.0 0.10
Totals 2 145.80
with volume discount 131.22

Now AM6 - Solomani says this ship has 10 tons of cargo capacity and 4 tons of waste space, but I have no idea where. With assuming double occupancy and removing one stateroom, we now have 2 tons of cargo capacity. Thoughts?

Typo in the original design?

AM6 has fuel of 102 tons instead of 120 ton. This would allow the 10 tons of cargo and 4 tons waste space.

The differance is in the fuel tankage. You give it 120 tons, AM6 gives it 102 tons. The 18 ton differance is your -4 tons plus their 14 tons cargo/waste space.

Is 40 tons right for your D PP?

lol. Too slow & yes 40 ton of PP fuel is right. Pretty fuel hungry these book 2 designs. Mind you I worked it out in HG2 & the cost ballooned to 157MCr in volume.

Yeah, you need 120 tons of fuel for the thing to work.

I don't think that fixed weapon mounts remove the need for fire control tonnage, does it?

A little off topic, but after decades of ignoring book 2 designs, I just noticed the time to build... 12 weeks for a 200 ton book 2 design vs 48 weeks for a HG2 design. I may have to discard some of my predjudices & have a play...

AM6 p42:
Fixed Weapons Mounts: Solomani ships may have fixed
weapons mounts (as opposed to turret mounted weapons).
Fixed weapons mounts allow up to two weapons to be attached
per each hardpoint on the ship and do not require fire control
tonnage or a turret.
Weapons in fixed weapons mounts are
operated by a gunner on the bridge and are subject to an attacker's
DM - 2 in space combat. A ship is allowed fixed
weapons mounts equal to the model number of the computer
installed on the ship (Model12 computer allows two hardpoints
to have fixed weapons mounts).

I wrote that from work, without my CD handy.

Ok, that gives us 2 tons back. We're still 2 tons over...

Use 3 small staterooms, 6 ton total vs 3 full staterooms. Being a military ship, double occupancy (or equivalent) is pretty standard. Saves 6 tons giving you 4 ton of cargo space.

Ref Book 2 pg 14,
"In some starships (especially
exploratory vessels, military ships, and privately-owned starships), double occupancy
is allowed in staterooms."

I always figure two double-occupancy staterooms and a four-person crew: Pilot, Engineer, Medic, Gunner; either way, you need the hold space to store missile reloads.

And the beam lasers are a waste of money without a hawk-eyed Gunner; the -2 To Hit DM they take for being in fixed mounts hurts. (Whether or not this penalty applies to DM-free-by-default Anti-Missile fire is unclear, and I shan't open that can of worms just now.)

I suspect the Type SF exists to showcase fixed weapons mounts, not to make sense. It is rather a slapdash design, but the picture of it looks pretty cool.

Since I have to stay pure Book 2, how about dropping one stateroom and assuming double occupancy? That gives us 2 tons of cargo capacity, and everything works, or am I missing something?
