Ships With manufacturing Capabiliteis

I thought I saw a post to the effect that they had worked out some manufacturing ships. As I plan to have a migratory race or two in my homebrewed campaign, I would be interested in such ships and how much space/dtons it would take.

Could someone help me?

Currently today the Navy has manufacturing ships. They're called Destroyer or Submarine Tenders. They can't construct a whole ship, mind you, but they can manufacture just about any needed part to repair that ship. They would most likely function as a temporary base, until an actual station was set up in orbit do do the repairs for them. They'd also hang out at the rear of fleet formations till the battle was over and move in and begin repairs. One of these could be crossed with a hospital ship to increase it's capabilities.

There are a couple of maintenance tenders in BITS 101 startships.

There are some posts down on the TNE board under useful derlicts that have industrial stations - these are space stations but?

For details on industrial equipment, the TNE handbook has rules, sizes etc.

Cheers

I just checked my d/l copy of BITS 101 Starships (rev 5)

Only one Tender was listed.

I'm a bit hazy on the purpose of the "Maitance Modules", while the workshops where no problem.

It appears to be GURPS and the rules I have available are T20 and some of the CT reprints.

What I'm trying to get a handle on is how much space (even a rough percentage would be nice) of a VERY large ship/station would have dedicated to manufacturing.

I might be able to rough out by guess and by God via that single 101 Starship entry, but I would still like an idea of how mcuh of "generic" manufacturing cpablity would be.

101 starships is now at Version 7 (at least).

Traveller TNE's world tamers handbook has detailed tables for industrial capital, light industry, heavy industry, raw materials extraction, agriculture and construction. It is spilit by TL, and gives cost power requirements, output, displacement (4000cr of machinery is 1dtn), raw material requirements per month. It also details using extra capitial or workers. There are details of how many raw material units = 1dtn.

I think there is a copy on Ebay.

Cheers

Hello fellow Travellers,

Looking in the T20 book, pg 278, I see in a sidebar about Engineering Shops. They are 6 tons & cost 1MCr each. That might be the ticket.

I have two ships designed under T20 rules for salvage/tender work, one jump capable and one not. They both use Engineering shops to accomplish their mission.

If I can get the wise and all-knowing Falkayn to put them on his Traveller Downloads area you can look at them.

Hello fellow Travellers,

I would like to thank both of you for posting these designs... I hope you know your next Scout Brew is on me.
