Working on non-3-I designs. Went with a streamlined winged design after re-reading the Solomani books.
I haven't fully statted it out as of et , but it is a high speed design with lighter weapons than other warships but this fits into it's role as a scouting, security, fast response vehicle.
A fast lightly armed and armored corvette designed for patrol, piracy suppression, and policing duties. The heroic class is often seen along major trade lanes, and in areas experiencing unrest or open conflict. due to it's speed and jump range it also serves as a scouting, courier vessel in areas where the normal scout craft are too vulnerable to operate safely.
It's small crew is supplemented by marines, and other personnel. usually a platoon of marines, and a sol-sec monitor, or operative, are carried aboard the vessel. This allows the Heroic class to respond quickly to local situations. A heroic class corvette arriving unannounced is often a sign that an offensive operation against criminal, or insurgent group is about to take place. While a platoon of marines isn't an impressive force, when supplemented by local forces the well trained marines directed by a Sol-Sec operative can handle most small scale problems.
The Heroic class is armed with plasma weapons, missiles, and beam lasers, in fixed mounts, rather than turrets. The agility of the ship make this arrangement less of a limitation than in slower, bulkier vessels. using the missiles, at long range then closing in to use it's directed energy weapons the corvette is able to deal with lightly armed criminal vessels, and improvised warships used by rebellious factions.
With the installation of potent reaction drives for short burst of acceleration, and fast burn boosters on it's conventional drives, the Heroic class is faster than most vessels in it's weight class. This not onl allows the vessel to rapidly intercept fleeing targets, it also allows the vessel to evade larger more potent warships. the extra volume of the drives, and feul storage does limit the vessels offensive powr, and munitions storage, it gives the Heroic class an edge over other vessels.
for extended operations in atmosphere to support the marines and local force, the Heroic class is fitted with control vanes, enhanced aerodynamic surfaces, and a hull that generates lift to help support the vessel when moving at supersonic speeds though most atmospheres. When fire support is called for the sheer power of the ships missiles, plasma guns, and lasers can easil overpower most ground vehicles, and fighters, as well as reducing structures to rubble. This gives the marines and local troops a decided advantage over forces without starship support.
the Heroic class is not well suited to engaging more heavily armored vessels, even with the addition of powerful non-standard missiles. It is seldom used as part of a fleet formation during battles, although it often act as a screening, scouting vessel, fire support vessels, for larger formations. in this role where it's agility, acceleration, and speed are a valuable asset, allowing it to avoid being closely engaged by more conventional warships.
