recently, my dad was cleaning out his attic and came upon a box of my old dragon magazines. included in this was the october 1985 issue which included a GREAT space warfare story. written by rob chilson and called 'passing in the night', it was the near future tale of a spaceship fighting a battle while trying to return to earth.
the great thing about this story was it's attention to hard-science. no flashy, battle-of-britain style fighters. no re-fighting trafalgar with ships of the line.
just tension. fighting an enemy who only shows up a dot on the viewscreens while hurling nuclear missles at each other.
i highly recommend this story to anyone who enjoys a hard sci-fi setting such as 2300, etc.
