Description:
The Shadow class vessels fill a specialized role, that of supporting elite Imperial military and intelligence units. The unique use of Chameleon
armor, normally restricted to ground vehicles, allows the vessel to infiltrate systems undetected.
Their use as infiltration and intelligence gathering units is one reason for the success of Imperial elite forces. All aspects of the vessel are
designed with reducing the signature of the craft in mind. Besides the chameleon armor, special baffles are built into the hull to disrupt any
energy emissions from the power plant or the maneuver drive. In order for these baffles to function at maximum effectiveness, the vessel
must operate at 1.5-G or less. Crew comfort is minimal, with all crew and special ops team members in double occupancy rooms. Cargo area
is also limited, usually just enough for the special ops teams’ equipment and vehicle (8000vl or less to fit through doors or into cargo area).
Never produced in any great numbers, The Shadow class vessels are not seen at commercial or even normal military bases. Only the absolute
best personnel crew these vessels, and all crew and passengers are debriefed and advised of the severe consequences for revealing Imperial
secrets when leaving.
Imperial sources will not acknowledge the existence of these vessels, and any reports of sightings are dismissed with a
cover story.
Note: This ship was designed using the T20 Starship Design Sheet by Angus Mcdonald (all glory to him). While my use of Chameleon Armor
for a Starship may not be canon, the purpose of the ship seemed to justify its use. According to my figures 2.2 tons of space remain
unallocated. My justification for this is the signature reduction systems.
