Standing in front of Stephon's Tomb

This was posted as an adventure thread in the Dave Nilsen thread.

Imagine the scene...

Brave, foolish, hardy adventures have treked across Vampire infected space to land on a vaccum planet. Here lies Stephon, the last Emperor of 11,000 worlds. His tomb remains unopenned. What treasures, what hidden wisdom will he have bequeathed to future decendants and what traps await the unwary.

The fusion torch lights and flickers as our party decends down. Inserting an ancient key, the airlock begins to cycle...

Let's work together to finish this adventure...

Once you cycled through the airlock into the tomb itself, there'd probably be a pointlessly huge hall lined with life-sized statues of the preceeding emperors and empresses.

The PCs will retrieve the corpse of Strephon, and with DNA recovered from it, will be able to make one of themselves appear as the genetic reincarnation of Strephon, and will be haled (by IRIS, who is still hanging around) as the "Triumphantly Returning Emperor," who will lead the Wilds back to the glory of the past.

The airlock cycles, and the adventurers find a relatively small room. In the center lies a plain sarcophagus with a simple plaque which reads "I tried. I am sorry that I failed to take care of my people. Please forgive me and take care of these people."

On the left side of the room sits a relatively small library, sort of a mini-jump start cache of knowledge.

As the PC's move the top of the sarcophogus to one side they feel pricks on their hands as small tiny needles emerge around the edge of the interior. Each needle is covered by a sap like material filled with millions of small nano-tech machines. These small nanites are a cursed disease, a virus, infecting all. As these nanites spread throughout their bodies, the PC's thrash about frantically until one brushes up against the tapestry in the back of the room. It is then that they feel the double blows of the coup d' etat and coup de grace as the black curtain engulfs them all.

Strephon's tomb is on Usdiki. It is visited by thousands each year.

A special vault was created to house a letter brought to Usdiki from High Regent Caranda.

Who brought it? What did it say? Take a guess if you like but the answer is in ther 1248 book.

The airlock starts to cycle...

Then the automated robot guardian turrets kick in and atomise the unauthorised graverobbers, leaving the Emperor to rest in peace. :D

No, here we talk about the final resting place of Stephon, last Emperor of the Third Imperium. Not merely the pretender nor the false tomb on Usdiki.

Blasphemy, MJD, for even suggesting that Stephon did not go down in a blaze of glory. All praise the Church of the Eternal Sun-God Emperor.

Only thousands? That's not a lot of visitors...

All kidding aside, it was firmly established that the double died to Dulinor's bullet. The actual Strephon was away and lead his faction from Usdiki.

So the tomb MJD talks of contains the actual, genuine Strephon.

Lord only knows what the tomb Kafka speaks of contains. :)

I wonder what Lucan did with "Strephon's" corpse??? ;)

Could that be the tomb on the cold, airless rock?

Probably had it cremated so nobody could come along and test it for DNA, and show that it wasn't the real Strephon, and therefore give legitimacy to the Strephon faction. This is of course after Lucan had his own people check it and find that it wasn't Strephon. I do feel sorry for the people that ran the tests, a secret like that is one of the things you never want to learn, because you will never live long enough to tell the tale.

Unless they had a brilliant idea, to stay alive, and managed to destroy the real data without notice, and fake up the tests and prove to Lucan that it was Strephon, but that story would have gotten out.

So the obvious case is that Lucan, and probably only Lucan, knew that Strephon wasn't dead but couldn't acknowledge that he was alive and undermine his own position. He also would have to accept the "Real Strephon" stepping down as an imposter because he couldn't acknowledge that Strephon truly was alive.

Oh, come on daryen, you don't expect that MJD will provide with all the answers. IHO, the real Stephen went down in a blaze of glory. The above mentioned tomb is the pillgramidge to the to vacant throne.

The actual tomb would make more of an adventure seed between a cache and a spooky encounter from the past.

As the Adventurers descend into the tomb they are greeted by a hologram program that give them the clues to find the next part of the quest to restore the Imerium to it's former glory. Who left the hologram? What is the next clue? Can these Adventurers restore anything? Do they have the power or equipment? Do they want to?
