Stat That Gun - 001

far-trader

SOC-14 10K
A little idea, inspired by earlier "Stat That... " threads and a bit of creative block. Just throw together a weapon in PimpMyGun, post the pic here with the title above (adjusting the number) and maybe the most basic data (length, ?) then let all and sundry provide the stats for it. Colour text is even more welcome.

Not a contest, everybody wins (if they want guns that is). All Traveller rules welcome, let your imagination run wild.

So, to kick this off, a little (well, not so little) gun that looks (I hope) somewhat high tech. Built with PimpMyGun II and some post work in Paint. I make it about 91cm long, and it looks heavy. Have at it fellow Citizens...

Stat That Gun - 002

Combat shotgun: (t'aint fancy but I like shotguns in my Traveller)

15mm smoothbore firing polymer coated AP flechette (6 tungsten darts per shell), rifled slug, and pellet. The weapon is 900mm long and equipped with holographic sights that have wireless hookups for HUD-equipped helmets. A 10 round box magazine is commonly inserted forward of the trigger, but a 50 round drum is available. A recoil compensator in the stock reduces the shock of firing a 5 round burst to comfortable levels and helps reduce muzzle rise. The operator can select single shot mode if preferred.

Stat That Gun - 003

From the lockers of MTU comes: (I posted it before, but now I have a reasonable, if not perfect, pic of it)

polymerOne-Shot.jpg

The Polymer ONE-SHOT™ TL-8

A different kind of body pistol, the One-Shot (2 shots actually) is a polymer framed handgun 15cm long and weighing 200grams. The twin barrels are both polymer with thin steel liners and rotate along a central post to bring one barrel at a time in line with the striker. The sealed barrels each contain one 9mm round that does not eject when fired. Both rounds are semi-jacketed hollow point.

The trigger is locked in place by a thin plastic tab which the user breaks during the first trigger pull. The round is fired and then the user rotates the second barrel into place manually. The second barrel locks into place to prevent misalignment by use of a simple pin that pops into a hole in the frame. The rounds are actually part of the barrel sleeve itself, so the thing can't be reused. They are caseless rounds molded into and sealed in the barrel at the factory and fired by the impact of the striker pin on the embedded primer.

Because the barrels are sealed the shelf life is effectively unlimited, though the manufacturer only guarantees the effectiveness of the rounds for one year after purchase. The guns are completely recyclable and when you return it to the store can get a 20% discount on the next one purchased.

The One-Shot™ comes blister-packed and in many colors and has also been marketed in special limited edition collecting lines, such as sport teams, celebrity, action hero, and fashion designer styling’s.

For weapon stats, other than the differences in length, weight, and number of shots per round, the One-Shot is treated as a body pistol. I use the original 3D6-8 for body pistols IMTU but give the One-Shot a damage of 3D6-4 instead for having bullets with a little more punch.

Price is only 250Cr. at any major sporting goods store, or in the sporting goods section of major department stores.

ONE-SHOT™ - It’s there when you need it!

Since the rounds are integral to the barrels, it seems to me that it might also make sense to have a models where the barrels-with-rounds are replaceable, possibly at lower cost than trading in the used-up gun for a discount against the next one.

Is that pic the actual size of the pic, or do you have a larger one? If you've got a larger one, I can use this for another Gun Shop item in the magazine...

I'd suggest providing more than just the length; maybe list the key features that you selected from PMG - "300 cm long, gyro-stabilized, laser sights, caliber > .45, etc., etc.," and then let folks have at.

N.B. I'd also appreciate notes from both the OP of any gun and the folks statting them out saying one way or the other whether they can be snarfed into Freelance Traveller.

There are models similar to a pepperbox IMTU where you can get a more durable and accurate version of the One-Shot that uses 6-barrel snap "magazines". It still counts as a body pistol for purposes of detection, but the armor DM's are similar to an autopistol (range DM's are the same as body pistol due to the short barrel). Different loads can be used and the barrels are disposable.

If you want I'll write it up, fix the pic, and send it to you for the magazine?

I'd substitute titanium for steel for those thin liners... even small amounts of steel will show up on low-tech magnetometer-based scans (how many times is the damned thing at the airport set off by a small ring of keys?), but non-ferrous materials are a lot harder for them to pick up... I've seen friends go through with large numbers of (aluminum) chains bedecking their jackets, and my titanium watch has never triggered the thing...

By all means, do please write it up and send it and a pic in! Please make sure that the sent-in version has your real name attached to it for publication.

I've actually changed it to ceramic in my own notes - the original notes were written decades ago, and the digital version is a result of my laziness in typing. Nowadays the ceramic materials are more than capable of replacing metals, especially for the purposes of a disposable body pistol.

Although, there is also the problem of how weapon detectors of the future will function. Will they be looking for metal, non-metallic materials used for weapons and of specific minimums of density and makeup, explosive chemicals, energy fluctuation, or what? Of course, I just use the definition of body pistol from Book 1 and go with the "non-metallic construction designed to evade detection" to simplify things or I'd drive myself batty.

OK...final pics of the One-Shot family of cheap disposable body pistols. I'll send FreeTrav a full write-up for his magazine.

I'd have to call this some sort of plasma rifle. So let's go with: (MgT Stats)
Plasma Rifle TL15 Ranged (rifle) Damage: 6d6 Auto: No Recoil: 1 Mass: 6 Magazine: N/A Cost: Cr150,000 Requires external microfusion power plant (typically in a backpack)

I would add that it has a space for magazines of fusion cells, which give it the same performance but about 15-30 shots depending on GM fiat.
