Evening all,

Sample: Self-Propelled Auto Cannon Possible Errata 1: ROF

Page 30, Sample Vehicles: Self-Propelled Auto Cannon ROF: The listed ROF of 340 for the tech level 9 three barrel 8 cm electric action auto cannon is not supported by Design Sequence 3 Auto Cannons Step E on Book 3 page 17.

E. Auto Cannon (AC) ROF requires the following:

Weapon’s Bore Size
AC ROF = CPR Gun Table ROF listed for the weapons bore size
Action Type Multiplier: Gas has a multiplier of 50 while an Electric action’s multiplier is 75

AC ROF =Round down ((Non-automatic ROF x Number of Barrels x Action Type multiplier) / Bore Size, 0)

Bore Size = 8, CPR Gun table ROF with tech level modification = 13, Number of barrels = 3, Electric Action type multiplier = 75

AC ROF = Round down ((13 x 3 x 75) / 8, 0) = Round down ((39 x 75) / 8, 0) = Round down (2,925 / 8, 0) = Round down (363.625, 0) = 365

Suggested Errata Entry for ROF

Page 30, Sample Vehicles: Self-Propelled Auto Cannon ROF (Correction): The listed ROF is in correct based on the instructions in Design Sequence 3 Auto Cannons E Rate of Fire on page 17. The correct value is round down ((ROF = 13 x 3 barrels x 75 for an electric action) / 8, 0) = 365

Vehicle Sample: Self-Propelled Auto Cannon Possible Errata 2: Autofire Hit Bonus

Book 3 page 30, Sample Vehicles: Self-Propelled Auto Cannon (Tech Level 9): Autofire Hit Bonus listed on page for Effective and Long ranges are too high based on the instructions listed in Design Sequence 3 Auto Cannon Step F Autofire Hit Bonus on page 17.

Design Sequence 3 Auto Cannon Step F Autofire Hit Bonus summary

1. Autofire Hit Bonus is determined from Design Sequence 3 Auto Cannon Step E ROF
2. Step E ROF is the number of rounds fired in a complete turn
3. Phase ROF is the number of rounds fired in half of a complete turn: ROF / 2.
4. Using Phase ROF consult the Autofire Bonus table Rounds column on DST page 10.
5. If the Phase ROF falls between two Rounds values, use the lower of the two to determine the effective, long, and extreme Autofire bonuses.

Determining Autofire Hit Bonus:

1. The ROF listed on page 30 is 340; the correct value per Step E is 365; rounds fired in one complete turn.
2. The Phase ROF is 340 / 2 = 170 or 365 / 2 = 182.5
3. Phase ROF falls between Rounds values 160 and 320.
4. Using the lower Rounds value of 160 the Autofire bonuses are Effective +5, Long +4, and Extreme +2.

Suggested Errata Entry for Autofire Hit Bonus:

Page 30, Sample Vehicles: Self-Propelled Auto Cannon Autofire Hit Bonus (Correction): The listed Autofire Hit Bonuses for Effective and Long range are incorrect based on the instructions in Design Sequence 3 Auto Cannons F Autofire Hit Bonus on page 17. The correct values are ROF = 340 or 365, Phase ROF = (340 / 2) or (365 / 2) = 170 or 182.5, consulting the Autofire Bonus table, DST page 10, Phase ROF falls between 160 and 320, using the lower value results in bonuses of Effective +5, Long +4 and Extreme +2.

Vehicle Sample: Self-Propelled Auto Cannon Possible Errata 3: Ammunition Prices

The ammunition prices for all of the Self-Propelled Auto Cannon Sample Vehicle’s, Book 3 page 30, appear to be too high based on the directions listed in DS 2 L Ammunition on Book 3 pages 15 and 16.

Ammunition price is determined by the formula:

Ammunition weight x Weapon Type Base Price Multiplier x Ammunition Type Multiplier

For purposes of streamlining the process I am going to establish a base price using the formula:

Ammunition weight x Weapon Type Base Price Multiplier

The ammunition for an 8 cm auto cannon weighs 14 kg and a low velocity gun, or howitzer, has a base price multiplier of 2:

Base Ammunition Price =
14 (Ammunition weight) x 2 (x Weapon Type Base Price Multiplier) = Cr28

Price determination:

L1. HE has an ammunition multiplier of 1 making the price = 28 x 1 = Cr28

L2. KEAP has an ammunition multiplier of 1 when being fired low velocity guns making the price = 28 x 1 = Cr28

L3. KEAPER has an ammunition multiplier of 1.1 when being fired low velocity guns making the price = 28 x 1.1 = Cr30.8

L4. HEAP has an ammunition multiplier of 1.5 making the price = 28 x 1.5 = Cr42

L5. CBM has an ammunition multiplier of 3 making the price = 28 x 3 = Cr84

L6. Flechette has an ammunition multiplier of 5 making the price = 28 x 3 = Cr140

L7. Illum has an ammunition multiplier of 2 making the price = 28 x 2 = Cr56

L8. Chaff has an ammunition multiplier of 2 making the price = 28 x 2 = Cr56

L9A. Chemical smoke has an ammunition multiplier of 2 making the price = 28 x 2 = Cr56

L9B. Incendiary smoke has an ammunition multiplier of 1 making the price = 28 x 1 = Cr28

L10. Chemical has an ammunition multiplier of 2 making the price = 28 x 2 = Cr56

Suggested Errata Entry for Ammunition Prices:

Page 30, Sample Vehicles: Self-Propelled Auto Ammunition Prices (Correction): All the prices for auto cannon ammunition do not match the Price formula described on Book 3 Design Sequence 2 L. Ammunition page 14 and the example on page 15. The correct pricing for all ammunition is shown below.

HE: Cr 28
HEAP: Cr42
KEAP: Cr28
KEAPER: Cr30.8
Flechette: Cr140
CBM: Cr84
Illum: Cr56
Chaff: Cr56
Ch. Smoke: Cr56
In. Smoke: Cr28

Vehicle Sample: Self-Propelled Auto Cannon Possible Errata 4: HE Characteristics

Page 30 has the HE contact penetration, burst size, and fragmentation penetration values as 15/2/3 which does not match the shown on the CPR Gun Table. To determine the three values the directions on page 15 for a HE round states to count down 1 row for every 2 tech levels (or fraction thereof) above 6. The CPR Gun table lists an unmodified 8 cm gun with the characteristics of 13/2/2, counting down 2 rows for tech level, changes the characteristics to 15/2/2.

Suggested Errata Entry for HE fragmentation pen:

Page 30, Sample Vehicles: Self-Propelled HE characteristics (Correction): The HE round fragmentation characteristic of 3 is a typing error the correct value is 2. Change the listed value of 15/2/3 to 15/2/2.

Vehicle Sample: Self-Propelled Auto Cannon Possible Errata 5: CBM Characteristics

Page 30 has the CBM hit DM characteristic listed as +1 which does not match the shown on the CPR Gun Table. Per the CBM entry on page states “In addition, CBM rounds have a hit DM which depends solely on bore size, as listed on the CPR gun table.” An 8 cm CBM per the CPR Gun table has a dash under the column header of CBM DM.

Suggested Errata Entry for CBM hit DM:

Page 30, Sample Vehicles: Self-Propelled CBM hit DM characteristic (Correction): The CBM hit DM of +1 is an alignment error when referencing the CPR gun table. The 8 cm CBM DM is a dash line, which is shown as a zero (0). Change the hit DM value from +1 to 0.

Evening all,

I had to edit my post because the original entry exceeded the character count.:eek:o:

I used the auto cannon described on page 30 vehicle samples to test Design Sequence 3 and here is what I think maybe errata.

Update

Evening all once again,

Looks like I may have jumped the gun for the CBM hit DM. Carlobrand pointed out that a dash in the tables indicates that something is not available for use.

The CBM instructions states that an 8 cm bore is the smallest bore size that can fire this type of round. If that is the case an alternate possible errata entry would be on the CPR gun table.

Pages 6 -7, Design Sequence Tables CPR gun table CBM DM column (Correction): In the CBM DM column for an 8 cm bore change dash to a +1.
