How do I sell my non-Canon CT adventure modules on Mongoose? I contacted them via email, but have not gotten a reply.

Any insights?

Probably just me having some language issues but I don't get the OP.

"on mongoose"? You want to sell stuff on their website?

"CT adventure modules" I know CT is pretty compatible with Mongoose Traveller but couldn't you tweak them first so that it can be called Mongoose adventure modules if it's going to be sold through Mongoose?

I think, correct me if I'm wrong, what you are calling canon, Mongoose would call 3rd Imperium setting?

"non-canon" Do you mean something that could not be used in a mostly 3rd Imperium setting or is it something that has setting and events that don't originate in "canon" but could be compatible? Is it compatible with one of the other settings Mongoose or others have come up with?

Cosmic; I just made up some worlds for convenience. I didn't want to rife through uncounted pages of stuff that may be semi official on the web, nor through my own personal collection, and try to retrofit my adventure onto them. Ergo I picked a sector that I think no one's bothered to develop officially, and tossed in a couple of new systems to make it playable.

You used to be able to upload adventures here and sell them, but it seems like those days are over. Ergo, since, from what I understand, Mongoose currently owns the Traveller license, I have to go through them to upload what I would like to sell for a little money, even if it isn't part of the official Traveller setting.

Traveller publishing

Technically, no, you don't have to go through Mongoose to self-publish. There's a thriving 3rd-party group of publishers out there doing just what you're talking about. Gypsy Knight Games, Jon Brazer Enterprizes, Samardan Press, Spica Publishing, Terra-Sol Games, and my own DSL Ironworks are the ones that come to mind immediately, and I know there are more than that.

If you download the Developers Pack, that will give you everything you need to get started publishing items using the Traveller rule set. If you're looking to publish things compatible with/set in the 3rd Imperium, it gets a bit trickier - everything has to be set in the Foreven Sector and requires the Foreven Logo License. It seems complicated, but Mongoose has done a fair job of making it relatively painless.

If you have any questions about the process, I'd be happy to help. Shoot me a message here on COTI, or contact me through one of the links below.:)

EDIT: I should note, if you're going to self publish for money, you're pretty much guaranteed that it will have to be done using the Mongoose rules. License restrictions make it much more difficult to publish for other rule sets (CT, TNE, MT, GT, etc).

Nav; it's your lat paragraph that pertains to me. I just wanted to create a module for the CT rule-set, then post a PDF for for money/DL.

It's non-Canon because I don't want to be restricted to the Foreven sector.

Unfortunately, that will be your stumbling block - as I understand it, publishing anything for CT for money is essentially going to require that you get a license from Mr. Miller.

If you don't want to be tied down the the OTU and the Foreven license, it could be done under the standard Mongoose Traveller license, but then you're back to MgT, not CT.

You've got to be kidding me (and believe you me I'm more than just a little dissapointed). I specifically contacted Hunter about this very thing a few years back, but with all BS I've been through, and a severe desire to throttle friends and family, I've barely been able to concentrate, get my degree, get a full time job, and now this?

You're joking, right?

Right?

At present, there are 4 options for getting paid:
1) Do it for MGT as a non-OTU 3rd party
2) Do it for MGT as a submission for Mongoose
3) Do it for MGT in Foreven
4) Do it for JTAS Online.

Mongoose's contract was exclusive except for SJG and QLI... and QLI's license has sunset.

Well, that's interesting. The whole point was to just make up a non-canonical adventure for the 3I, see how it does, then maybe sell another one.

I'll see what they have to say.

Check the mongoose forums under Traveller - Mongoose are asking for writers and are willing to pay - not sure how much. They are looking for articles etc. at the moment rather than full books, but make a pitch and see what they say

Cheers
Richard

Well, I've still not heard anything.

I can only assume they're not interested...for whatever reason.

Oh well.

Anbody with insight can reply here, PM me, or email me at Blueghos - at - pacbell - dot - net

Thanks.

Give Matt at mongoose another email / forum post. There is a dedicated forum entry under ttraveller / writers wanted. They seem to be reasonably responsive

Well I sent in two submissions in early April, one I got a response to in May, the other I'm still waiting. So I figure Matt et al are probably fairly busy, so I just wait patiently :)

(Mind you, they were both 3I adventures and my adventures can be a little 'odd' at times).

I'll just chime in and mention that Avenger Enterprises is also publishing non-OTU Traveller materials. We're in the curious position of being the only third party permitted to use the OTU, but have chosen not to. There's reasons.

Our products include the ships books, a couple of big adventures, the Far Avalon setting and a line of fiction set in the OTU (which we have a license for). At present we're republishing my various tales and novels set in the golden age and early recovery period, but there are plans to look at other eras too.

We're also considering publishing genericified (that's a word I just made up) versions of some of our OTU products, but that depends on a lot of factors that it isn't possible to predict.

I also submitted something to Mongoose (a few careers) and haven't heard anything; this is a bit less than a month so I shouldn't be upset. I'll give a post on the MGF thread just to be safe.

If I don't hear from Matt at Mongoose in an as-yet undefined while I'll contact you guys.
