T20 character generation questions

I am new to this site and only joined up to see what was new in Traveller. I've played three versions 0f Traveller: classic, megaTraveller and tne. I had acquired T20 and the d20 core rules and have been wanting to play but I,ve realized my book has some errors. I,m ynable to find the errata data on the fixes. More recently we tried to roll up characters to discover a lack of understanding. For instance, If i went to college and got a bachelor's degree how do I advance my character? Do I use the academic class charts? If so do I roll for assignment? This does make sense. I was hoping I could get a play by play roll up for this as well as a service class and someone with psionics.

Welcome aboard kninemarkone :D

I'm not handy to my books and a bit rushed at the moment but will get backt to answer your questions later if nobody beats me to it.

First off though this post should be moved to the T20 Questions and Answers forum as more appropriate. Just copy it over there in a new post and a moderator can delete this one. Or they may just move it for you if they see this.

In the meantime some of your answers are probably in the T20 Q & A forum. It'll just take a little searching.

Again, welcome aboard kninemarkone :D

I've found a few threads that should be very helpful:

http://www.travellerrpg.com/CotI/Discuss/showthread.php?t=9827

http://www.travellerrpg.com/CotI/Discuss/showthread.php?t=9518

http://www.travellerrpg.com/CotI/Discuss/showthread.php?t=9809

http://www.travellerrpg.com/CotI/Discuss/showthread.php?t=9763

And searching (use advanced search and limit it to the T20 section to reduce the answers) any relevant keyword should get you some more help. Lots of the T20 questions have been well answered over the years. But if you still can't find it just ask.

Also check your private messages for more.

Just report threads that are out of place as such, and I'll move them.

Thanks, Dan!

I appreciate the help. Still don't know how to post things accurately or get them marked for deletion. the link was not intended I was trying to delete it. Aramis said to change the the editing section to posted in the wrong category. bear with me as I learn the way things work.

No, I said use the report post function (which is triggered with the button that looks like:
report.gif
).

I've merged the threads, and since it's a Q&A, put it in the T20 Q&A.

Now, please, back on the topic of his questions ... :)

Sorry Aramis, I didn't understand how to use the various site functions.I've not used a forum site before but thanks for the information

Not as detailed or extensive as I recall (so I probably didn't find the one I'm thinking of) but here's a brief Q&A Char Gen Walkthrough:

http://www.travellerrpg.com/CotI/Discuss/showthread.php?t=2840

Unless maybe it was on the Yahoo T20 Group? Digging in the posts there might be worth a shot too for you kninemarkone:

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/Traveller_T20/

(including in the Files section, copies of the latest errata)

The group has been a bit quiet but I think some still get the messages.

I also recommend setting up T20 PCGen (at least when I was using it I found it helpful, it's been a while):

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/T20_PCGEN/

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/pcgen/

I still don't see a reply to my PM (private message) but being new to the board you might not have found your way there yet. If so, look at the top right of the screen. You should see "Welcome kninemarkone... " and below that a link to Private Messages. Or just below that you will find a drop down menu selection titled "User CP" and a link in there to your Private Messages.

Hi,

One major question I have is how do you create a Navy (or Army/Marine) Doctor? You have to do three terms of Uni (min), but if you join OTC, you have to join the Navy in Your second term, which according to the rules would make you a nurse...

Am I missing something?

Regards

David

Am I missing something?

A couple things perhaps.

First, I don't count University as "terms" and they don't contribute to Muster benefits or Retirement pay. They also aren't all 4 years long you'll note. You do track age for the purposes of effects of course.

Second you only enter service through OTC after graduating. So as long as your character continues their education (i.e. does not flunk out) they may go through Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate programs and then eventually graduate as an MD (providing they manage to accumulate a T/Medical skill rank of at least 5 in that time ;) per page 96) and enter the service with an automatic commission (and experience bonus). If you flunk out at any time in your OTC University attempts you don't get a commission (or experience bonus) and immediately report to the service for a term. So your MD will have to pass Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate programs to be a Navy Doctor and Officer. If he flunks out he'll just be a (possibly) over qualified enlisted Navy medic.
