T20 & CoC20

Enoff

SOC-13
Reading the Traveller handbook I realized that I needed a core d20 book, I was put off at first until I realized that I had a copy of Call of Cthuhlu d20.

I have been reading some reviews of both games to get a feel if they would mix well.

IT is a beautiful thing, I picked up mine for only $20Cnd at a Con and I have not looked back, it is beautifully illustrated and the rules actually make sense, say, unlike the D&D 3.5 which lost me several times and seemed like they were talking down to me. The T20 book is good but it is still depended upon the Wizards product, I would dare to say that one could almost use the d20 Cthulhu as a standalone product.

Yes it seems well put together and clear.

I like the idea of adding Sanity to a game as well.

Oh so this is so weird as I get into understanding these rules.

The d20 thing threw me off, its just the old D&D system that has evolved. I thought d20 meant they had come up with some crazy rolemaster system with endless books of tables.

So this might be heresay but since this is the old str, int, wis, dex, con, char stat setup with an evolved system for handling actions what is the difference from Star Frontiers made twenty+ years ago??

Star Frontiers if I remember had a well tested actions system and the old D&D combat rounds just like d20.

Hah! thinking of the d20, 1 inch=5feet and a combat round equals 6 secs; that is almost straight out of the the original white books of D&D.

The Traveller T20 Handbook is based on the Fantasy D20 SRD rules. There's been some discussion on the boards regarding using D20 Modern, and a set of house rules has been produced.

I agree. The CoC d20 book is very well written. It is a somewhat simplified version of d20 and I think it just plays better without all of the extra baggage found in 3E.

d20 CoC is a nice stand-alone game, and I like it better than d20 Modern because Modern uses classes like "strong hero" and I thought that this terminology sucked the life out of the game somewhat.

Awhile back I contacted Chaosium about doing a Traveller/CoC crossover...nothing ever came of it though. A shame.

Damn. BRP Traveller ... I'd buy that. Wait, no I wouldn't - I've been house ruling it for 20 years!

Still be cool, though ...
