SOC-12
In my D&D games, I have for these past several years used point-buy for the player characters.
For those of you who aren't familiar with buy-in, you're given a number of points to improve your statistics from the base value of 8. Up to 14 costs 1/1, 15-16 cost 2/1, and 17-18 costs 3/1. The default value in D&D is 25 for a "normal" adventuring group. The "default array" adopted by some DMs is the 25-point buy-in allocated like this: 15 14 13 12 10 8, and arrange them how you like. This is supposed to represent the "average" PC, according to the D&D authors.
The 25-point buy-in, on the average, generates significantly lower stat totals than the 4d6-drop-lowest system. When one takes into account the mathematical statistics, especially given than you reroll any character whose bonuses don't add up to at least +1 or for whom no stat is over 12, you get a maximum at 31-point buy-in. (The lesson here is that it's better to roll your character in the base system, but you do have a chance for a rotten one.)
Okay, all that being said, why am I posting it here?
It's because I want to know what stat generation system you guys are using. I have been using 31-point buy-ins for the last couple of campaigns, and they're pretty successful, even though I sometimes pine for the more romantic but sometimes problematic roll-your-stats method. But T20 has two more stats (Edu and Soc), so I'd have to increase the points for the buy-in, but that makes it easier to have multiple 18s or lots of 16s by sacrificing other aspects of the character.
Anyhow, how do you guys roll or generate your characters' stats in T20?
