the Port Concourse..

Liam Devlin

SOC-14 5K
Again, following the Mythmere outline:
Concourse Architecture
Table 1 bad air
Table 2 good air
Table 3 highport

Concourse size
Table 1 (based solely on starport size)

Concourse shops
This is several tables, probably, but all depend on two variables, tech level and starport classification)
)
--Mythmere

Maddog already did the first piece of heavy lifting on concourse shops:

The concourse is where all the 'stuff' is:
The Scout Lounge
The Hiring Hall
Captain's Guild
Spacer's Guild
The Lone Star
The Travellers' Aid Society
Starship architect (Naval architect?)
University departments
Space academies
Conference/exhibition centers
Brokerages
Various entertainment centers
Also there's possible hotel space
with or without Alien Environment spaces
and their attendant 'stuff'
halls, conference rooms, bars, restaurants, swimming pools (wierd humaniti) and theaters.
Habitat Modules:
housing
factory
farm
park
Offices and work areas
including the brig, and self defense areas (screens and weapons)
Labs
Hospital (sick bay)
Engineering module - orbitals require other 'stuff' - Environmental, station keeping, gravitics, power plant, etc..
GT: Starports also lists armor...
now all we have to do is put it together without all the 'accounting' of other systems

-MADDog
This just needs to be expanded into a workable table, with any additional contributions thrown in from the others out there...

According to Marc's T5 writeup..
The concourse - passenger services. Ticketing, baggage check, and boarding.
Passenger Accomidations - Hotel, Restaurants, Souvenir shops, Theaters and Entertainment centers
Data Terminals - (I still remember setting in the Data Term. Booth in Universe II)
Message Center - Email, Xbaot, old telephone...
Customs and immigration.
The Freight Exchange - where the brokers lurk with their speculative cargo.
The Hiring hall - Crew needing work..
The Lone Star - I think people hang out here...
TAS - Travellers' Aid Society

Then there's the other stuff I've mentioned...

And A BANK.
:D
-MADDog

We must include...Trader Jims Bar and Grill,
also at least two of Trader Jims Winnabagos, lunch wagons loadedwith burritos!!!

So far, Mythmere, MADDog, looks nice. No, TJ, we can't endanger the public health, safety and morality that way!

Edit: so do it, TJ! ;)

Concourse architecture
Table 2 (good air)

1-2 The concourse is mostly open and airy, with few solid walls and lots of skylights in the roof. There are frequent waterfalls and small gardens, with benches placed throughout.

3-4 The concourse is very geometric, laid out in straight lines with lots of hard, jutting edges.

5-6 The concourse curves and flows gracefully with no straight lines and with softly rounded edges.

7-8 The concourse architecture refects the culture of the system's/subsector's/sector's dominate non-human race, and incorporates traditional building materials.

Trash..i shur wish i could read your notes..I like your style of writing...can understand it...good stuff, and most important, it not full of TRAVELLERIZE..i think you know what i mean.

Concourse Architecture

Each floor is disk shaped, with levels off center from the one below
one huge elliptical dome
one huge circular dome
many domes connected by covered walkway/slideways
open air covered with transparent ceiling
any of the above with tents inside for shops
holographic interior shifts decoration
holographic illusion of jungle canopy and decor
walls and ceiling are cultured crystalline growth
walls and ceiling are bio-grown, then hardened (looks like the walls in Alien)
wooden structure with modern fastenings and coatings
star shaped building
ziggurat - ships land on the steps
skyscraper
arch - concourse hangs from top of arch
arch - concourse is the arch-shaped building
circle building with park in middle
adobe-like building with open terraces and many levels
underground complex
half underground half balcony sticking from mountainside
river runs through concourse

It seems that every one is leaning towrds "modern"
why does everthing have to be "modern"...thout each planet would be different!!

So we have councourse features by Maddog:-edited 0224hrs 13-july 2003

1.The Scout Lounge*
2.The Hiring Hall
3.Captain's Guild
4.Spacer's Guild
5.The Lone Star**
6.The Travellers' Aid Society**
7.Starship architect <Naval architect?* & **>
8.University departments***
9.Space academies***
10.Conference/exhibition centers
11.Brokerages
12.Various entertainment centers, swimming pools [wierd humaniti] and theaters.****
13.Also there's possible hotel space
with or without Alien Environment spaces
and their attendant 'stuff'
14.halls, conference rooms,
15.bars, restaurants,

and condensed features from T5, MWM:

1.The concourse - passenger services. Ticketing, baggage check, and boarding.
2.Passenger Accomodations - Hotel, Restaurants, 3.Souvenir shops, Theaters and Entertainment centers
4.Data Terminals - [I still remember setting in the Data Term. Booth in Universe II]

footnotes thus far
*-if base type is present (see UWP)
**-On Imperial ports A-C-class
*** Population and TL dependent
**** TL-dependent. Those without electricity (TL-4/3 to 0 nearby may have "live entertainment" theaters, singers, etc.

The Next partition for Table 1 [concourse size]I see is
1-Very Low tech: TL-0 thru 3
2-Low tech : TL-4 thru 7
3-Mid tech : TL-8 & 9
4-High tech :TL-10 thru 12
5-Very High tech : TL-13 thru 15
6-Extreme High Tech : TL-16+

Size of port will also be a determining factor on how many of the above concourse "things"/items/ modules, etc..

therefore I propose this <subject to shoot down/ better idea, etc!> partition for sizes...

1-Very small/tiny : with UWP population 0-1
2-Small : With UWP population 1-2
3-Medium sized: with UWP population 3-4
4-Above average[>medium] with UWP population 5-6
5-Large: with UWP population 7-8
6-Huge: with UWP Population 9-A.

Possible die mods for TL up or down...

Probably because we are talking about STARPORTS.
You don't see many airports, even in crappy 3rd world nations on Earth, with a horse towing the 737 up to the terminal...I'm thinking it is inherent in the item that there be a higher level of technology, even in a low tech setting.
Yes, I agree that there needs to be some color and diferentiation based on the world, but let's not take it too far to extremes...

Just my opinion of course...

how about:
Ri +1
In +2
TL +/- 1-3
Po -1
breathable atmosphere +1
