Tne Cd

Ok then. Well here is a nudge for the production staff then.:p

As far as I know, Marc Miller is the "production staff" (and he also has another T5 deadline looming in the not-to-distant future).
... but I'm with you 100%.

Is there no one that the mass scanning can be delegated to? As the license holder, could he not take these things down to Kinko's and have them do all of the scanning for him?

pendragonman:

Taking them to kinkos would
1) require him to prove his ownership, since he neither holds a business license as "Game Designer's Workshop" nor is listed as copyright holder in the books.
2) assumes they will scan to PDF
3) presumes they would do a better job than whomever Marc hired for the last few.
4) presumes that they would cost less than Marc paid whomever did the last few.

1)For items out of print/production, Kinko's sometimes does not require proof of license ownership. I know this because I have copied many items thru them that were out of prints/productions.

2)They will scan to PDF. They do it all the time. Further, once all the scans are done, they will transfer them to the customer's flash drive in lieu of a burned CD. Again, I know this from personal experience.

3)They have no choice but to do the best job possible, as the customer has the right to return items they scanned for redo or refund. To not allow the redo or refund is a violation of Kinko's corporate policy (c.f. personal experience)

4) They most certainly will not be cheaper than the people he used previously. The best that can be hoped for is that they will not cost more.
Also, by personal experience.

While they won't cost less, I am betting that they will get it done much faster than the previous scanning personnel. After all, employees only work so much a day, but Kinko's works 24 hours a day and have the expertise required to be quicker with at least as high a quality.

My local kinkos won't do oop stuff if its games, perhaps that's a localized policy. They stopped me from cloning something that is OOP. (To wit, V&V, for personal use.)

Do they include OCRing? and checking the OCRed text?

I'll mention that DTRPG's scanning people are not always watching the scanner for OCR feedback. Several products show their lack of care when you have it read it. (Or cut and paste.)

I would definitely buy the TNE CD. Does this let you print things like the players forms or player briefings from Path of Tears? I have some photocopies I did way back when (being very careful not to damage my treasured PoT) but the quality of the copies suffered since I wasn't willing to press too deep on the copier cover...

Assuming they use the PDF format, then yes, as you can print out specific pages. That was why I bought some of the things (like the player forms) off DTRPG.

With Regards to Kinko's

Hi,

I haven't bought any of the CD's yet, so I don't know what format they are in, but with regards to Kinko's, I know that they have some real specific policies on scanning stuff. Specifically, several years ago some of my family were putting together some stuff on our family geneology, and Kinko's told them it was company policy that they would not make a color scan of any color image/print/artwork or line art from any book or magazine etc due to copyright concerns, regardless of when the book or magazine was printed or what you intended to use the scan for.

As such, as I said above I haven't seen any of the existing CDs so I don't know if there are any color images in them, but it would seem to me that such a policy could prevent someone from including any color images of the covers of any of the books, magazines or supplements.

Anyway, just some additional comments.

Regards

PF

V&V? I don't recall that one...

It may also be my local Kinko's interpretation of the copyright law. Mine is very close to campus, and so has to deal with alot of grad student research crap...although mine is veeeery picky about photographs.

Hi!
I got this e-mail from Marc last week:
Marc Miller said:
Actually, I expect T5 in a month. Then FASA licensed adventures. mid year. Then TNE by year end.
So, we can expect it some time near Christmas. :)
