Trader's Guild

Spartan159

SOC-13
Knight
As mentioned on page 726. Just what is this guild, how old is it, what does it cost and what does it provide for that cost? Are there any other guilds?

And how much is Highliner passage to Tupile... ;)

More seriously as I posted in the other thread - is this a change to the CT era OTU or is it something for the Galaxiad era?

From Agents of the Imperium:

Civilian shipping in the Third Imperium is generally not given a prefix (it’s the “100-ton Beowulf”, never the “100-ton SS Beowulf ”).

Thanks. I remembered that reference, but couldn't remember where I had seen it. That would seem to argue that "TGS" is one of those professional association prefixes that GypsyComet mentioned in the other thread, and not an official Imperial designator.

I've never previously encountered any mention of the "Trade Guild". During the Long Night there were some trade groups that existed for some time. I could look through the Wiki to find the various governments from that era. Usually membership was given by being a member of one of the member worlds.

There may well be a "Trader Guild" in the New Era or the Milieu 1900, but I don't know of any references for that.

You mean like this?

You just need to use an [ IMG ] tag. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be any way to resize a picture, so if you post a really big one, it overwhelms the whole thread.

[IMGW=200] was added by this admin specifically to allow reduced width...

There are at least three prominent ones in Early Solomani (pre-Confederation) history that are prominent.

  1. Terran Mercantile Community
  2. Old Earth Union
  3. Dingir League

Reaver's Deep has all kinds of trading going on.

Some of the fan-based Gvurdon and Vargr Extents materials mention trade leagues.

Shalom,

maybe it is nothing more than a self glorified entity that gained some acceptance and reputation (might even be a very good one) rather than an official gizmo?

The Lloyd's Register of Shipping confers no legal existence to your ship. That is done by the Ship's register of the country of your flag. But honestly, who read the Bahamean register of ships beside the guy that transcribe it in the Lloyd's register...

have fun

The crests appear to be Golden Era Third Imperial.

The ships specifically identified as "Trader's Guild ships" are the Far, Free, and Fat traders. No insignia for the SDB, Packet or Scout, and there's no Liner shown.

*** What exactly, or when, is Golden Era Third Imperial? ***

Thanks!

It's 1105 until the shift to MegaTraveller and the rebellion lurched the timeline forward:

Adventure 1 Kinunir dated as 1105
JTAS 2 TAS News first article 1105
Final CT JTAS 27 (in Challenge magazine) TAS News article 1112 then the disconnect to MT era in JTAS 29 TAS News 1116

Golden age of CT 1105-1112.

I'd put it 1090-1111, myself... and the timeline only lurched 4 years ahead with MT... As Whulorigan notes, post 4FW.

Taking the discrepancies in organizational structures as a post 5FW reorganization, there's a lot of turmoil in government in that 4 year lurch until you hit the start of the Rebellion timeline.

So there's no references to the Traders Guild anywhere else to situate it time/space-wise?

There's no reason is there why this couldn't be a franchise set up at disparate points around the TI, extant where it's taken hold just in patches of space here & there?

I actually just has a thought about this the other day (concerning the "reorganization" of the Colonial Fleets as Imperial Reserve Fleets in MT instead of the Subsector/Planetary Navies described in CT/HG):

Is it perhaps as simple as the fact that during wartime, the Subsector & Planetary Navies (i.e. the "Colonial Fleets") are Imperialized and brought under the authority of the Imperial Naval High Command? When the Rebellion broke out in 1116 (and the various "foreign powers" [i.e. Solomani Confederation, Vargr, Aslan, etc] took advantage of the chaos), the Imperium was immediately in a war-situation and all of the Subsector Navies & Planetary Navies became Imperialized sometime after 1116.

So when we look at MT (set in 1120 default), we are seeing the Colonial Fleets as they operate during a war-footing.
