Tramp Trader - the Gypsy Rover

I have probably broken about ten ship building rules with this one but as usual I don't really care :)

A unique one-off Tramp trader and her crew - a family - Mum, Dad and the kids and a few more.

cool, a catamaran.

perhaps it's the foundation for a ... communal jump ship. everyone contributes their little bit of jump drive to make the colony go. a gypsy caravan kind of thing. synchronized sampans. harnessed houseboats.

I do notice the cargo, yes. but I'm thinking ... refugee city? once these sorts of things start accreting they can get HUGE. something like hong kong or singapore, a conglomeration of economic/political/religious refugees in orbit around an oppressive or otherwise difficult world, providing an unofficial gateway to it ... pieces of it break off, jump to another world, return with goods and re-attach to the colony, perhaps not in the same previous location ... like an organic entity, a bacterial colony that spreads ....

That becomes a plot device rather than a ship plan :)

Im definitely incorporating this, like yesterday.

Just the sort of thing that would be a perfect Oort Cloud trader.

Awesome design, Brian ! This is the unique type of ship that adds texture and flavor to the spaceways of the Traveller Universe !

Thats always a plus. when you can use a ship to base a scenario or story arc off of its a plus Not every ship has to be a perfectly optimized profit making machine. Somme can be, and are perfect for, a hook for the referee to hang a story on.

I do like it--a lot.

Just to rain on the parade, it's clearly an open structure, and unstreamlined. Of course, if you're willing to bend the Traveller rules and just let it use contra-grav to "slowly" set straight down through the atmosphere, that's not too big of a problem. (Oh, whose idea was that? Sorry for not crediting properly.)

I absolutely love the decor in the lounge and dining room. It clearly makes this someone's home, not just an impersonal transport.

GT starship rules has contra-grav modules. I just assume that semi-streamlined ships in CT(HG) use them as well. We are talking about spaceships after all :)

Communal Spacecraft

Reminds me of the animated film Titan A.E. with the communal starships. They were also called "drifter colonies." The main character in the film called the inhabitants "drifter colony bums", until he and a companion needed their help.

My son and daughter recommended that series. I must watch it.

I think there's more 'Yankee' ingenuity in the Traveller Universe than is suspected, not all starships come from the drafting tables of 'cloistered' naval architects, sometimes practical application and need-necessity bring about such vessels.
