TravCon 11 - Anyone going?

TravCon (UK) 11 - the afterglow.

I took the plunge the other day, having never been to an rpg con before, much less played at one, and booked a day of gaming at BITS's TravCon in March. I'm only there for the Saturday but I wondered if anyone else here was attending. It'd be nice to put names to faces.

Hi Scarecrow

I'm attending for the full weekend both as a player and a ref.

This will be my forth year and I can highly recommend it. Its a small and friendly convention and I'm sure you'll have a good time.

Look forward to seeing you there.

I attended last year and was planning to attend this year, but due to increased bills after we moved I had to cancel my participation. I really looked forward to spend the weekend playing Traveller.

But maybe I can make it next year.

This is the forth one I think. However, given the late night sessions in the bar, my memory could be faulty.

would love to go but being honest I just can't afford it
it sounds like a brilliant con with a lot of great folks

I'm only there for the Saturday. For 15 I couldn't say no. I'd volunteer to run a game but as it's my very first con and as I only know the CT LBB rules... :D

Maybe next year.

Well, that was an absolute blast!

I got there around mid-day on Saturday and was met by Andy and presented with my BITS Traveller glass tankard (everyone got one for attending the con), which was unexpected and very pleasant and then almost immediately met Ravi (Ravells) who I then joined for the afternoon slot playing through the Judges' Guild 'Amycus Probe' with Derek, Pak, Simon and reffed by Nigel. Then later in the evening I got to play in 'Detached Duty' (formerly known as Type S by Comstar and now republished by Mongoose in Crowded Hours) with Derek, Tim, Nigel and reffed by Nick who got steadily more affected by the contents of his hip flask as the night wore on :D.

For my first ever gaming convention, I absolutely loved it. It was small, cosy, very friendly and I'd definately go again next year (I might even volunteer to run a game).

PS, this just leaves the question of, Nellkyn and Sylea, who were you? Did I speak to you and not know it? I'm guessing that one of you is Simon?

What a great weekend. A really friendly crowd of people and really fun adventures played. Thanks Bits for showing us all a really good time!

I'm definitely signing on for next year!

Wayne - I think Sylea is Jeff.

Ah. I don't think I spoke to Jeff. Would that Be Jeff Zeitlin of Freelance Traveller fame?

I forgot to mention the highlight of the weekend too. Simon firing off some uber BFG, missing the target and irradiating his team mates. Did that win the PFI award in the end, Rav?

That I don't know.

Lol, it was nominated but didn't win. The clear winner was a situation we had in the evening session that I was a part of. We were carrying out a prisoner extraction from a beanstalk capsule while it was in the ionosphere. The plan was to have our ship match velocity with the capsule, we jump across with grav belts, blow a hole in the side of the capsule, extract our prisoner and a high ranking Solomani official. Tom managed to roll snake eyes for his jump to the capsule, so he spent the entire time scrabbling around the outside of the capsule trying to get in. By the time he did, we'd finished the fire-fight and got the Solomani. Tom grabs the Solomani and jumps back to the ship (rolls snake eyes again), tries to hold onto the Solomani (rolls a 3) and drops him. As he falls away into re-entry, Wylie E Coyote style, all we hear is, 'You bastaaaarr.....'. You had to be there.

Tom should have got another prize for his James Brown impression when we were talking to the leader of the 4th Church of the Imperium. (Hallelujah!). Wonderful stuff!

Nope, Sylea is Simon.:)

It was good to meet you and Wayne. I had a great time, although I did stay up too late in the bar!

Hope to see you both next year and as for running a game Wayne, you should. Andy's always after more refs to run things at the con and the people who attend are really friendly.

...as for running a game Wayne, you should.

Out of interest, what are the rules on running a game? I understand that it has to be Traveller rules and preferably the new Mongoose set, that goes without saying, but what about setting? Does it have to be a canon Traveller setting such as the Third Imperium, Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog or Babylon 5 or could I throw anything in?
I guess what I'm getting at is that I'd love to run a Space:1999 game using either Mongoose Traveller or classic (with some house rules for combat). How would folks feel about that, do you think?
