Universal Ship Profile

I am currently using the UWP and UPP and am trying to use the Universal Ship Profile.
I imagine my list of books is incomplete for me to get a full list of all the codes. I found this:
http://traveller.wikia.com/wiki/Ship_mission, but it is not quite enough. I just picked up FFS2, but it is sadly lacking in the USP area. I do not own anything prior to 2300 or TNE.
Question 1: I would like to profile several ships that i have made with FFS1, where can I find charts or info on how to?
Question 2: is there a fan-site that has all the USP data? or possibly some other link?

Edit: i was not paying enough attention, i do believe that that this should have gone to Imperial Research Station instead?

Moderator Note: Nope, I think you have the right place for it. Carry on.

I'm not sure the USP you're looking for was used with TNE, but my memory is a bit hazy on it.

Classic Traveller (Book 5 - Navy) used a USP string for ships, and TNE designs could be translated into that. I think posting the format and rules for it's translation should be allowable. I've got to run now but if nobody else coughs it up sooner I'll get to it later.

And it is entirely possible it's out there on the web somewhere...

Ratheden,

That is the Universal Ship Profile (USP) from Classic Traveller Book 5: High Guard, Second Edition. (Usually you'll see that book referred to here as HG2.)

In fact the verbiage on the .png you linked is the output from a fan-written program for HG2 called HGS or High Guard Shipyard.

As Dan noted, you can "translate" a FF&S1 design to HG2, but you'll lose a great amount of detail in the process. Making matters a little worse, FF&S1 uses very different assumptions than HG2 about things including maneuver drives and weapons so any translation between the two won't be very accurate.

There's a Yahoo Group called ct_starships which discusses both Classic Traveller Book 2: Starships and HG2, with an emphasis on the latter. You can find many classic USPs there.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Regards,
Bill

Converting to this or from this with TNE:
section 1 isn't TOO tough; 2.56 MW per Td of ship per PP number. J Number is max jmp in parsecs; G number is G's thrust, Config and Tonnage codes just need to be looked up in Bk5, MegaTraveller, or T20 sources. Note that G-hours are not listed, since prior to MT Hard Times, all canon maneuver drives were not fuel using.
section 2 is the toughest; the conversions can be found in Mad Geo's guide to converting MT vehicles and reverse-engineering it.
section 3 is much tougher. TNE has very different assumptions about weapons, so you'll need to guess. the needed tables to convert 250 MW input lasers and 500MW energy weapons are in CT Bk5, MT RM, or T20 THB. PA's and Mesons are tougher still.
The batts is the number of installs of batteries of weapons/screens of a given factor. multiply the batts by the number of weapons in a battery that size to find actual mounted weapons.

A couple quick conversion notes to add to the excellent help above:

Tonnage Code is Numeric in hundreds of tons ("0" is used for small craft under 100tons) up to 900tons (being 9), then Alphabetic in thousands of tons up to 10,000tons (being K, having skipped "I" as similar to "1"). After that it gets odd.

Configuration is Numeric in order "1" through "9" for: Needle/Wedge, Cone, Cylinder, Close, Sphere, Flattened Sphere, Dispersed, Planetoid, Buffered Planetoid. That may need some interpretation of a couple of the TNE hulls iirc.

Computer is Numeric for standard models by model number. Bis and Fib models use special letters. Fib are Alphabetic starting with A for model/1 Fib (and skipping "I" again). I don't think TNE does Bis so we can skip that, but they are R and S for 1bis and 2bis if you're converting other designs to TNE. Probably just up the model number then. Then again I'm not sure I recall TNE using computer model numbers either, so that will be a guess as well. Base it on Jump and Sensors maybe.

Crew is an exponential like the Pop code from UWP.

i should clarify, i am translating into T4, but want to use the USP for both. i saw a while back that to go to T4 one should translate through TNE first?
also, i have been looking for Mad Geo's Guide to converting TNE, have been at it for a few hours.
What i have found:
http://dbdev2.pharmacy.arizona.edu/archives/TML_Archives/TML94/BN528540.TXT, Geo is in there, but no guide.
http://www.geekdo.com/rpgitem/49256/challenge-issue-77, this lists a converting guide but for worlds.
http://pipl.com/directory/name/Gelinas/Geo as list of stuff he wrote...
and: http://geo-verse.com/ ,his own personal website

SO...if any one happens to have a saved copy of his guide? and THANKS thus far for all the input.
ummmmm input......

Edit: haha found this, was amused: http://eaglestone.pocketempires.com/imtu.html

I may still have a copy... It's on a HD of a computer that crashed and I've not set back up since, as I've nowhere to set it up. Haven't used it in 3 years nor needed it in 5.

i should clarify, i am translating into T4...

Ratheden,

Oooo... Translating into T4? May I ask why?

Also something I missed in your first post, 2300AD is not part of the Traveller family no matter what it's original name may have you think.

Bill

Answers are easy :) into T4 as i have no cash, but gobs of free time. as for 2300, i use it as reference material, as 1:i have quite a bit in the 2300 and tne line, and 2: i really like some of the stuff presented in it (2300).
i started out in TW2k then 2300(never did get the renamed edition) and then to TNE. and have been with that a long time. but as time passes i like to move on... though i am several years behind.
