UWP Question

In the MT2300 book the following code follows a particular nation

BA99847-B Ri In 3 5

The interphase, size, atmosphere and such are all obvious.. as are the Tech Level and Trade codes but what are those last two numbers for?

Probably staring right in front of me but I cant find it.

The nation codes don't have size or atmosphere (they're in the world profile). The three digits have to do with land area, telecommunications network, and transportation network (I forget the exact order, check the MT2300 rulebook). The two digits after the trade codes are the population multiplier (In the example above it means the nation's population is 300 million), and the number of off-world colonies.

Got it, thanks!

But even thats a bit confusing (as is a great deal of the book unfortunately) on page 19, at the top is says that the first digit is the area of the nation, but the first should be the interface type, right?
For example Germany, on page 21.. has a Catapult, Area of 8, Transport and Comm of 9 and a Population of 4 (which I have read is incorrect and should be 7 but we will stay with the book) Which indicates a population of 10,000+, which we then multiply by the multiplier of 5 - indicating 50,000+. Right?

I know that sounds rediculously small... I beieve the population digit to be wrong but for purposes of this clarrification, IM right, arent I?

Its Interface-area-trans-telecom-pop-gov-law-tl trade codes pop multiplier-colonies.

So from your ref, BA99847-B Ri In 3 5 : the nation has a catapult, Area of 4 mil-20 mil sq km, excellent transportation grid and telecommunications grid, a population of about 300 000 000 mil, gov type 4, law level 7, tech level 11, trade codes of Rich and Industrial and 5 extra solar colonies.

Right. How I wish the A-B-C stuff in the example had carried over to mark and identify the tables, so that even if they're presented out of order (as they are, apparently for layout reasons) they still make sense in quick reference. You can add that with a pencil easily enough, tho.

Unfortunately, much as I am an appreciative fan of the new release, there may be greater concentration of errors in those nation / colony codes than elsewhere in the book. As I pointed out on another thread, Texas is shown having four colonies, particularly one at Beta Hydri, a claim that is unsupported anywhere.

(For what it's worth, I think a Texas colony or station at Beta Hydri makes a LOT of sense, but it is (canonically) unsupported.)

My hunch is those codes carry a lot of dross and detritus carried over from Colin's work on d20 and were additionally not as easy to parse from a proofreader standpoint as text paragraphs elsewhere in the book. Use with care!

Nation codes replace Size-atmos-hydro codes with codes for area-trans-telecom. Its a nation code (UNP), not a UWP, so the size-atmos-hydro of the world are the same for EVERY nation on the world, so you dont use those codes, but rather the Area (size of the nation), Trans (Its transportation network) and Telecom (Telecommunications Infrastructure) instead.

Hope that helps.

Got it, thanks... but some of those errors make it tough to catch on. Check out my Errata post where they list France as having a population in the 10s of thousands.
