Well, I'm hardly MJD or Zho enough to know what's on his mind, but personally I hope he starts his timeline about 1 year after the last date GDW touched. Less messy that way in the long term.

It'll spell out the broad sweep from 1200- 1248, then concentrate on the setting as it is in 1248. That leaves refs free to fill in the details of 1200 etc as they please.

Will the story focus mainly on the actions of the Grey Ghost or will include all of the other factions from the past TNE incarnation?

How much depth are we also looking at? Will it just be something like 50 page supplement or less. Or are we looking at a sizable contribution to the Traveller cannon eg 150 pages plus
