Virtual Tabletops

I'm refering to things like Screen Monkey, Fantasy Grounds or Open RPG. Has anybody used any of these yet? If so are any of them better for MGT? Which ones have the best background/miniatures sets, especially for SciFi RPGs? I used Screen Monkey once or twice a couple of years ago and it was good, the only thing I found wanting was the background/miniature sets. If anyone has any insight, please share. Thanks.

Take a look at RPGMapshare.com, it has a ton of free images for use with Maptool or Dundjinni. The Dundjinni forums are excellent for more images.

Another software, which is more forgiving to different systems and seems to work much better. Although it is definitely more expensive... Battlegrounds http://www.battlegroundsgames.com/

As for which software works best for actually gaming, I have no experience with real-time use of them. Sorry.

Fantasy Grounds was discussed recently. Rubapol posted about making conversions for FG for Traveller. See the link here.

I've used Fantasy Grounds II for non-Traveller games (as a player) which has worked really well. More recently I've run a Mongoose Traveller game (while it lasted) with MapTools, using Skype for voice chat. This also worked fairly well, though I did have some problems with one version of the map (a starship deck plan) vanishing.

Used open RPG but find it near impossible to schedule games regularly with all players, etc. Counter and Icon interface is good, general features are good. Played it back to back in Skype Game and as a long term open email game, super complicated tactics one, and both worked great. I recommend OpenRPG, I also recommomend finding someone that uses it to run you through it.

The Dundginni user forums seem to have closed recently, supposedly for maintenance, but it's been over a month now. Any ideas on that?

No but they run into copyright issues from time to time when forumites post stuff copied from somewhere else. Maybe they're reviewing everything posted there to make sure it's legal?
