Weapon Question

what the size of the GL on the last weapon ? 25mm ?

Size isn't specified, but it fires a RAM grenade (pages 205-206 in the THB).

I assume the forward clip is for the GL and the bullpup for the ACR.

I think I'll convert it to a 25mm underbarrel gyroc and see how that works.

Why is the ACR TL10? It doesn't seem very much advanced over what the military is currently using or researching (OICW, G11, etc.).

The OICW has been determined to not be practical, yet. The weight is too high and the weapon too bulky for deployment. It might take at least one more TL to get the bugs worked out. Remember that Leonardo designed a helicopter, but it wasn't until 1947 (More than 450 years later) before the Helicopter became practical.

I put the SMG into Paint Shop Pro and made the clip a little heftier, to make the weapon into the TL8 CLAW from Gurps Ultra Tech 2.

However looking at the barrel(s) I noticed two protrusions. In the T20 book is the SMG fitted with a laser targeting device or other type of optic ? It almost looks big enough to mimic the ACR I originally posted it's GL.

I can't say definitively since I don't have the separate volumes (just the whole book) but it would appear that pages 205-6 would be in the second one (Traveller20 - Book 2 - Equipment and Designs).

If it helps answer your original question about (round?) size the stand alone RAM Launcher has a 3 round capacity magazine that totals 1.4kg. I guess in rounded numbers it's 0.4kg per RAM grenade* plus the magazine wt of 0.2kg

* though that seems to make little sense if they do the same damage as the 1.0kg hand-grenade version which seems to be the way the rules read but I haven't looked at it in ages and there may be errata

Anyway maybe the bump will get someone else seeing it that can help more :)

Yeah, that's the impression I got from Hunter's reply way back when, it's in one of those, but ...

I have the Cyberpunk 2020 Chrome book (first one) and they've got a 10 gauge mini-grenade that does "almost the same as the 4cm" standard grenade, which might be the case here too. I looked up converting gauge to MM on the web a few weeks back but have forgotten what it worked out to be.

ooops here it is... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gauge_(bore_diameter)

so 10 gauge = ~20mm

I'll figure on 25mm since that's still a nice armor penetrating round in GURPS :)

I'll just turn it into a gyroc (which is the same as snub-type ammo in CT), GURPS offers all sorts of nasty extras for those, including "Viper IR Homing" :smirk:

I think Stainless Steel Rat had the .75 recoilless, that works too ;)

thanks for your help.

You're more than welcome for what little I helped :) Paid in full for the reminder grin that the SSR recoilless mention generated :D

I have the JTAS cd-rom and there's a 15mm Gyro rifle in one of the books.

Yes the SSR had some neat gimmicks:

PHP:
blackout gas grenade

gunfight simulator -- this handy device bangs and booms away like a small war, while at
the same time ejecting pellets of laughing gas concentrate in all directions, sowing a
certain amount of confusion.

I had plenty of grenades smoke, blackout, lachrymose (tear gas), regurgitant

Professor Coypu is the master of the Time Helix (time travel device)

.75 recoiless pistol (very similar to the micro-missiles in Phase World, and the gyroc .50
cals from GURPS Ultra Tech and their Viper rounds)

poisoned fingernails (similar to bionic/cybernetics)

sonic transponder (subsonic/ultrasonic)

molecular unbinder (to produce monatomic powder)

monatomic powder (monatomic elements ORMES)

needle gun (with "poison" and "sleep" settings; the gauss guns of other RPGs)

neutrino generator + directional neutrino detector

torture box (hand device with a cable that fits around the neck of the victim) delivers
shocks

under the caps of my front teeth were set serrated edges of silicon carbide. they were
invisible to x-ray since they were the same density as the enamel of my teeth -- but were
as hard as tool steel. simply bite down and the caps break and you can chew/cut through
the cable of the torture box.

heh, I was trying to figure out if the "molecular unbinder" was a tech item
of some type, when I came across this...

"Really great. Junk all around, none of the admirals looking in our direction and the
guards are out of sight. Give me the molecular unbinder and stand back."

I climbed out of the alien outfit and up onto its shoulders where I could easily reach
the ceiling. The molecular unbinder is a neat little tool that reduces the binding
energy between molecules so that they turn to monatomic powder and slough away
. I ran
it in a big circle, trying not to sneeze as the fine dust rained down, then grabbed
the metal disc as I closed the circle. After handing this down to Angelina I put a
wary head up through the opening and looked around. All was well. An admiral with an
iron jaw and a glass eye was sitting nearby, the picture of dejection. I decided on a
little morale raising.

"Psst, Admiral," I hissed, and he turned my way. His good eye widened and his jutting
jaw sank in an impressive manner as he spotted my disembodied head. "Don't say a word
out loud--but I am here to rescue you all. Understand? Just nod your head."

So much for trusting admirals. Not only didn't he nod his head, but he jumped to his
feet and shouted at the top of his voice.

"Guards! Help! We're being rescued!"

So I guess it's a "ray gun" ??? Not some sort of ???

Well dog-gone it, I came across something in print which talked about smaller bore/sized grenades and their equivalents but I can't for the life of me remember where I saw it.

I just got the MT cd-rom but I don't think it was in there.

It seemed to be exactly what we'd been discussing.
