White Dwarf 19: Criminals

Richard

SOC-11
So, I just acquired a lot of old White Dwarves on eBay, and while checking through Exodite's White Dwarf index saw that one of them had five alternate career paths for Classic Traveller. As I won't get them for a while, I was curious; what were they like? THe index lists them as Pirate, Con-man, Thug, Assassin and Thief; anything of interest? Did they use new skills, or were they just variations on the Book 1 tables?

Thanks,
Richard Tongue

From what I remember, the skill tables used existing Traveller skills (I believe that Books 4 & 5, and Supp 4 were out by then). The articles present expanded generation, so I do remember that I was using the WD scout, merchant and criminal chargens for years after Books 6 & 7, and Supp 4 were available. The scouts generation is especially nice as it ties in with a later article on the Covert Survey Bureau. The scouts have their own spook network :)

The early WDs had quite a few Traveller articles, so you're in for a good read. Issues 15-100 (ish) have pride of place in my gaming collection.
