[White Dwarf] Looking for an old article.

My Fellow Travellers,

I once saw the coolest Traveller scenario in an old White Dwarf (well, I am pretty sure it was WD) that had a bunch of Grenadier Imperial Marine minis in semi-gloss black with white markings near their crashed smallcraft, two Space: 1999 Eagles also in semi-gloss black with white markings.

I seem to recall them having to deal with some alien nasties and for some reason they spring up in memory as slightly eldritch, but I am getting up there in Terms, so that might be wrong.

Anyway, does anyone else remember this?

I want a copy of that issue very much and need the info to search it out.

Man, those were the coolest Traveller mini shots ever. Though mostly I still reserve first of my heart for the Lost Squad. A set of Imperial Marine minis in a lovingly hand crafted, individualized, seven color woodland camo scheme that I spent days on. I miss those dudes, but such are the dangers of being moved across Charted Space in those BCS sized Utility Transports. :( Even now they may sleep to wake to unknown dangers.

I need to see how sick the price on set of those bad boys would be. Probably ridiculous amounts of CrImps, but a Sophont must have dreams.

Laterness,
Craig.

Yeah, I believe I do. It was called "The Last Log", but I believe it was a Call of Cthulhu adventure, rather than a Traveller one. Its antagonist was a Fire Vampire , IIRC. It was in White Dwarf #56

It would be an easy convert to Trav though. That scenario was a huge influence to me and led me to run a CoC Mythos adventure with Trav 2300 rules.

I hope you can find a copy.

Yep!

That's the one! I recognize the cover. Thanks a bunch.

Well, I guess I was right about the eldritch things. I guess I thought it was Traveller from the minis. Memory is like that.

I've dug my copy out of the basement, drop me a PM if you would like more details on the article. There is also a page of sci-fi figures in a miniatures review talking about Laserburn :) Brings back memories, as does the Humbrol enamel paint used! The only Traveller article is one on "Plying the Spacelanes", essentially a set of random encounter tables that has supplementary tables to determine what business those vessels are on.

I have to quote this (the italics are mine):
When's the Next Ship to...?
This is a question often asked of Traveller
Referees, usually when they're least pre-
pared for it! It can be answered quite
easily, however
, by using the encounter
chances of the departure and destina-
tion worlds. Add these two figures
together, divide by two, and knock off
any remaining fractions. Add the jump
distance between the worlds (ie add 2 if
the worlds are Jump-2 apart) and con-
sult the Ship Frequency Table.
