Who has Christmas season special gaming sessions?

Well the 21st December is "Geeksmas" for our group. Traditionally held about a week out from Christmas at one of our group's home, Geeksmas involves a lovely meal followed by a gaming session.

Last year our RQ DM ran the old White Dwarf scenario "Rumble at the Tin Inn" (an absolute blast!) and Geeksmas this year falls to me as traveller DM to run something for the evening.

So I am thinking running a Snapshot boarding or attempted hijack action, pre-generated characters and Skrying Eye starship tiles of a Type A Free Trader, all in 25mm scale.

As I have not used Snapshot in over two decades, this will be an interesting event.

So are we alone in this or do other groups have a Geeksmas style end of the year event?

I will often do a themed game for holidays. On Halloween this year, I ran an adventure based on The Murders in the Rue Morgue. One player cottoned on, but played along.

We're not having one for Thanksgiving this year, but I'm planning one for Christmas this year. Sometimes we do some sort of gift exchange. It varies from year to year, white elephants, $5 or less, handmade gifts, etc. If I'm running the game, I'll usually throw some "gifts" into the game. Something fun, like a floating 30dT cargo container that drops the ship out of jump. Full of toys, goodies, and adventure hooks. ;)

I doubt we'll have a specific themed game, but holidays always encourage us to try and sneak in an extra session or two.

Oh, and I'm thankful for our moderators who do their darnedest to keep out the spam! Happy Thanksgiving all you/us Americans!

I don't do extra RPGing during the holidays, normally, but I do tend to boardgame more.

I second Aramis: we get together with friends all through the holidays beginning today and just play epic sessions of Munchkin, Gloom, Talisman, and Zombies! for the most part.

Not on Christmas, per se...

But every New Year's Eve.

The game chosen is based on the Players themselves and the end result is something spectacular for all to behold.

Not an RPG, as it's too hard to schedule around everyone's family traditions. In fact, we now don't schedule within the last two weeks of October-November-December anymore.

OTOH, one of those family traditions is that my father, my brothers and I all gather to play a "train game"-- usually one of the 18xx hex games. My dad won't play RPGs or wargames, and neither do most of my brothers, but we are all railfans and/or model railroaders to some degree. Much beer and/or whiskey is consumed, and the winner gets to pick the next gathering's game. Tonight is the November edition, as the out-of-towners are around for Thanksgiving.

Most of My game group are "holiday-orphans" that is family is to far away or relations are strained or simply does not exist. We will be gaming all holiday season with me doing the cooking and baking. I ran some classic traveller for thanksgiving. On Christmas someone else will be running a Swords&Wizardry white box game and New Years eve is T-4 by one of the wives (this is usually good) Super bowl night (okay it's not a holiday but We are not football people) We will be at the church party most likely playing Mutant Future or some form of traveller.

I'll be playing a few more games during the xmas holidays as I'll have time off with my boys and can schedule it without school, work, and sailing interfering. Probably only the one or two RPG sessions, but lot's of board games & trading card style games (like Ascension). Had ordered the Sedition Wars miniatures/boardgame hoping to play it during the holidays, but the delivery of that has been delayed way too late.

Geeksmas turned out quite well I thought. :)

A lovely meal provided by James's wife Tu, with great company was just the ticket for the evening of the last day of Earth...not...

Two casualties amongst the player team, whilst all the Vagr pirates were "dealt with".

I enlarged the free trader floorplan to 25mm so to use our miniatures.

Consensus amongst the group is that Snapshot works well enough to introduce into the regular sessions, so we will see how that goes.
