Wind Rideing

Eric

SOC-12
Here is my basic system for flying a grav board. I`ve not had a chance to play teast it yet so if anyone is useing G-boards in your campaign settings, drop me a line and let me know how it went.

Wind Ride. (Dex)
This is the base skill for controlling your Grav Board. Wind Ride it`s self will be rolled for simple things, like traffic. For more complex and (need I say it?) dangerous flying, the skill is divided into several sub-skills. For every point placed in Wind Ride another point can be added to a sub-skill. Sub-skills are used when the character flies in a way specified for that skill. Example, evading weapons fire would be 1D20 + Wind Ride + Evade vrs DC. Every time a character fails role in wind ride he must make a reflex save to maintain or regain control. In the event of a high altitude flight the character may make several tries at regaining control, see the rounds until impact table on page 175. One change has been made to this table. It is still possible to regain control at under 100m. This may be ignored if the altitude is shared with skyscrapers, GM discretion. GMs note, add some suspense to the game. Wait until the last moment to tell them that they made the save. The character gains a +2 bonus on wind ride for every five points of reflex.

Evade
The skill of flying in erratic and unpredictable maneuvers to avoid getting hit by weapons fire. Check results on the evasive maneuvers table on page 160.
Example, Billy (wind Rider level 4) has made some enemies out of four thugs with grav bikes. Billy spots them early and so is ready for their attack. The four thugs open fire on the space Billy had occupied a moment before. After that, shooting became even more difficult as Billy entered a series of dives, shuffles climbs and barrel roles.

Glide
This is a tricky one. A glide is the art of flipping or rotating the board while still traveling in a strait line. A character with 5 or more ranks in Glide will enjoy a +2 synergy bonus on Evade, and Board Strike skill checks. 5 or more skill ranks will also gain the wind rider a +4 on Threading skill checks. This is the only Wind-Ride sub skill that incorporates synergy bonuses.
The G-bike thugs came at him from all sides trying to box him in, that was their first mistake. Billy's grav board could easily out run them, but that would mean flying into their line of fire. Instead he decided to have some fun with them. Once the forward movement thrusters where shut down he would have about two seconds to act be for he started to lose altitude. "plenty of time.” he thought. With a few twitches of his toes Billy killed the FMTs and activated the control thrusters on the nose and tail, throwing himself into a 180 degrease reversed cartwheel. When he was upside down and flying backwards, he kicked the FTMs into high gear and jetted away from the baffled G-bike thugs.

Whiplash
This is the skill of throwing a would be peruser off coarse and usually into an object like a cliff face or side of a building. A failed attempt means that the character hits the object himself, or at least grazes it. GMs discretion. When applied to two G-boards, Whiplash is opposed by the peruser's Tailgate skill.
When Billy's peruser's finely caught up he lead them on a mary little chase down an ally way and up the wrong lane of traffic. One of the thugs wasn’t quick enough, his bike clipped an oncoming grav car sending them both spinning out of control. Billy led the other two up a second ally way. There was a tricky turn coming up, it was a sharp turn but the building jutted out just beyond the corner. Over compensation was deadly on this turn. Billy kept going strait until the last second when he puled a barrel role turn down the side ally. The first G-bike jetted right past him, the other two managed to follow.
As he zipped through the narrow opening at the turn`s exit, there was an explosion behind him .
“To sharp.” he muttered with a wry grin.

Threading
To “thread the needle” is to fly through a very small opening. The Threading skill would usually be used indoors or in an enclosed environment with many obstacles.
As Billy emerged from the alley he realized that he had made a mistake. The G-bike that had clipped a grav car was back. Three bullets deflected off his board before he could start spinning his evasions. It was shear luck that none of them hit him. “So, I`ve still got three to deal with.” Without hesitation plunged head long into an unfinished building. Rafters, I-beams, support Columns and cables, made a labyrinth tight enough to make a cat uncomfortable. One G-bike followed him and quickly regretted it. After dogging the first few obstructions his luck ran out. He clipped an I-beam then was closelined on a support cable. The bike went up in a ball of flame while the riders limp form plummeted through the rafters.

Board strike
This is the skill of using the G-board as a weapon.
Billy burst from the safety of the labyrinth only to find the two remaining thugs bearing down on him. He pretended not to notice until they where on either side of him. Billy then spun his board in a wide arc. The board’s nose met the bikers scull with a loud crack.
The thug’s ride crashed into the side of building while he landed on the roof. His crash suit protected him from series injury.

Tailgate
Do I really need to explain this one?
As Billy came out of his sideways spin he found him self behind the last biker.
“My turn.” he yelled before giving pursuit.

Honestly I'd all but given up on it. No one seemed interested, and my schedule (as a college student) is not very open at the moment.
I'll definitely put it up as soon as I can, but don't hold your breath. Things will be running kinda slow for a while.

Well, I for one am definitely interested! I have an adventure planned soon in which some of my PC's will encounter a gang, and the idea of making them a Wind Rider gang is too good to pass up... Any ideas where you were going to go with this would be appreciated.

As always, YMMV

Well allrighty then.
I guess all I needed was a little motivation.
All I need to do is type out the new feats description, and I'm done.
I'll try to get it finished and posted by this weekend okay? Watch for it, and thanks for the vote of confidence. ;)
