You are Archduke Marcus Aaron Erechs

stofsk

SOC-13
The year is 993. You have been tasked by Emperor Gavin to bring the Gateway Domain's economy back in the black and help contribute to the war effort in the Solomani Rim. You've relocated the Domain Capital to Annapabar. What reforms do you have in mind? What goals do hope to achieve, and more importantly how do you intend those goals to be realised?

With fire, and the sword.

Very carefully??? ;)

One of the biggest things he has done is breaking the stranglehold a number of individuals and corporations had on trade and commerce in the region. The 'old boys' network is getting hit hard. Of course this is making Erechs a lot of high level enemies too...

And the nepotism of the former Archduke and its apparatus does take some time to uproot. Some has been exposed, and imprisoned. The new men, of Erech's choosing to replace them are reformers generally.

993 is a time of change, and changes on the scale demanded of Erechs by Emperor Gavin have their socio-political ripples, much like the times we live in today.

The Imperial megacorp good-old-boy system out here in the Gateway Domain has been put on notice "put your creds where your mouth is--"; foreign policy initiatives with the gateway Polity and other Imperial trade allied states continue even as those states and individual worlds that oppose Imperial efforts align themselves with their nominal ally the Solomani Confederation.

Opportunities for brushfire-proxy wars (ala USSR vs USA in Africa )and Solomani deep ranging commerce raiding abound, as do intrigue, trade, mayhem, and disasters (planetary and stellar).

And then the equalizing boogeyman of all, the Dead space Phenomena/ Bermuda triangle of space is growing...

Erechs is beset by enemies within, and without. While there are those who wish him to succeed, there are many more of those who crave his downfall like an addict does his next fix.

Again, similiar to the times we live in now..

Bring in the Bwap accountants combined with Answerin mercs and clean house. Seriously, create a separate power base, such as a charity, begin to build them as vertically integrated organization then begin horizonal leverages on the suppliers. Encourage a reduced freight costs on the Free Traders and open up more Starports. Decrease military spending along the Rim but increase it proportionally along the Trailing to offset the K'kree threat, sophoning off resources, to also assist in the Imperial War effort. Make an effort to negociate with Vland and marry off your oldest offspring to someone well connected but outside the Sector.

That's interesting, I wonder if he even has a family? Being a busy 'self-made man' would he have had time to start a family?

He's single, never married.

Well, firstly, I truely dig kafka's remark about bwabs and Answerin mercs... But Imperial Marines will likewise do fine.

Erechs needs to stroke and swat the nobility and the megacorps simultaneously. The only way he can do that is with interstellar tariffs, as almost no noble's personal holdings can financially support their assigned portfolio of duties. So, IMHO, here's what I think should happen:

*Reduce freightage tariffs for large bulk haulers to get more cargos moving, while encouraging Free Trader access to closed Company-town ports. This will likely piss off Tukera, but the Vilani Mafia would love to take some of the slack.

*Establish contacts at the Imperial court and adjacent courts of importance. A suitable marriage to a high-lineage-cash-poor nobleman by his cousin's first born would do nicely. Likewise a nephew who won the SEH and an Imperial knighthood in action would be very nice. I mean wtf? That's how the Roosevelts did it.

*Jump-start small business in the Domain by starting an infrastucture program and with tax-breaks. Contracted by longtime middle-soc entrepenuers(sp), these would build jobs while bringing citizens off their homeworlds and into the interstellar community. This would spur growth and bring in the monies that Gavin needs to run the war through increases in net revenue.

*Have a strict no-nepotism program in his administration that includes an investigative branch. Promote strictly on the merits, perhaps going so far as to have blind resumes, followed by job testing and a stiff probation period after hiring. Preference given to returning veterans (who are solidly pro-Imperial and middle class as a group), of course.

*Publicly try (and convict) the worst of the corruption offenders, with long prison sentances and real consequences for the families ('What do you mean the former Baron Stackhouse's boy didn't get into the Naval Acadamy?!').

*And, no joke, send in the bwaps to follow the money... with some ex-Marine IMOJ backup. Preferably Answerin ex-Marine IMOJ....

Last note: Please remember that this is going on in 993. The Solomani Rim War in it's stalemate phase. Alot of ships and men are getting used up trying to blunt the Solly's advance, and new crews are being rushed to the front with less training, less time as a crew, and probably shaking new vessels down as they go. And Battle of Terra is nowhere in sight. This is a very frustrating time for the Imperium, it's citizens and it's Armed Forces. I visualize it as the Pacific in 1942.
Later, when the economy of Gateway improves and the war is won and her veterans get home, Erechs will be hailed as a hero. For now, the Archduke is as ass-deep in his trench as a private of the Four-Fifty-First Kaggushus Infantry. But the bad guys are more deadly and the private has had more training for his job than the Archduke....

</font>[/QUOTE]Does not preclude still having a family. Even if it is kept in secret.

And, as I mentioned above, he's got siblings, aunts, uncles and so forth to bargain with... Cuz Mr. Midshipman Bobby Erechs doesn't argue with Archduke Uncle Marcus...
