15mm mins for Traveller?

I agree, GZG 15s are great, the best on the market for the price. When I could budget for them, I'd put in a large order. Shipping costs at the time were reasonable. The 'Stargate-ish' aliens were perfect for one of my pirate bands. I'm been pleased how they increased their civilian mini lines. They also have a greater variation then most wargame unit sets. The only drawback is the children minis are a little out of scale with adults. Stargrunt seems also to limited in interesting aliens suitable for Traveller(though this may be an unfair criticism since I've never read the rules).

My GZG 15s arrived the other day, and I have to say they are fantastic! I'm really, really impressed by the quality. Sure, there was some flash, mold lines, what-have-you, but that's to be expected.

Now I have a bunch of guys (and gals) in vacc suits, heavy vacc suits, some of them floating in space in said vacc suits, some armed, some carrying toolkits, etc., and in addition I picked up a pack of civilians, including two guys in dusters with stetsons.

Brilliant!

Nice! When I get a chance I'll read more on your site. Looks like a good read.

I primered a few guys the other day. Uhhh... what's the forum's feeling on inserted images? I see we have the function, so I suppose it's ok to use.

It would be preferable to upload them locally, so that they don't go down, to the images section.

Also, this one could be cropped a good bit.

Your picture is of one of the GZG Spacesuit guys? Very nice. If I recall the original discussion on the GZG-L list correctly, someone linked to a Flickr selection of shots of a table top army of guys in spacesuits. Initially, we thought someone had mined a gazillion boxes of Citadel Adventurers and picked up the three or four spacesuit wearing figures from each. Then it transpires that RAFM actually has a couple of packs of armed guys in suits located in an obscure part of their shop site - in the 25mm SF section? - but in the interim Jon at GZG produced his three sets (armed, unarmed and floating) so suddenly we were all spoilt for choice :) Now, if only someone would make some decent not-vargr and not-Aslan in 15mm, I would be a happy Traveller :D

I see Stan Johansen makes Blarad "bear-men" - has anyone actually got any of them and, if so, how do they compare, size-wise, to humans? The photos on his site http://www.stanjohansenminiatures.com/15mm.htm seem to indicate that they're quite well detailed. Also, what are his 15mm Adventurers like 'in the flesh'?

PS Hope you enjoy my site - there's a Traveller section in the Roleplaying area (which doesn't actually contain any other roleplaying stuff :( ) which is me slowly uploading my 20-something year old campaign. Still lots to do. Plus there are photos and things of my Full Thrust spacesphips.

I love your site. Great pics, great content. Bookmarked.:)

Thank you, that's really great to hear :) I try and add something at least once a month. I have a couple of weeks leave, starting yesterday, and hope to finish uploading the mapped subsectors, plus do some work on a couple of Minor Races.

I also hope to get some of the pile of 15mm figures I've bought painted, and pictures uploaded. I've nearly finished some GZG security guards, wearing the obligatory red tunics

The Stan Johansen adventurers are reissue of an old Space Opera set. I bought the set to use for Traveller. A little rough, but not bad for the time period. My wife & I used them for are scout characters. They are about the same size as the Martian Metals 15's & have the same problem as MM with the bases being a little small for the figures.

Which is why I tend to keep a couple bags of ferrous #8 washers (typically from Home Depot) around for basing 15mm minis. They are a mm or so larger than the default GZG base, and give the vast majority of 15mm foot types plenty of base.

Yes, I've got into using washers as well. I find the 18mm diameter ones work for me, which is probably the same diameter as your #8's. For the Ixx figures I got from GZG, I found that 32mm diameter washers (I think they're called Fender washers) do the job nicely.

The original idea with using the washers was that I could cover a sheat of 3mm/5mm MDF with magnetic paper and use it to secure the figures for transport/storage in a box.

Thanks Darkhstarr. I do seem to recall reading somewhere that Stan's 15mm figures were for Space Opera. Hmm, I do like the look of the Blarad's, though. Might have to get a set .... more lead!
