What actually gets said among insiders is infinitely more unrepeatable. It's considered a sign of acceptance and friendliness. The viler the references and the more frequent the abuse, the more they like you.

Also, every acronym has its stated meaning as well as its "real" meaning. Not to mention the working designations many of the parts and systems get. Then there's the nicknames people get.

Any time an engineer thinks he's come up with a "good one", a tech will nod slowly then throw out something that's five times as funny and turns the air three magnitudes more blue. Stand techs are the most accomplished in this regard.

This really screams out for a PDF somewhere, "Acronyms for Traveller Tech That FFE Would Never Approve Of (Adults Only)," or some such.

...but the Browncoats are out in force with Serenity leading the pack by a large margin.
 
Are we still doing this thread here? It is a daily vote, or so I've learned, so if you want the node named the way you want it seems you've got to keep going there. And time is running out ...
 
And time has now run out, and it looks like Serenity has won the vote!

The Browncoats have a toilet named after us, and that makes us mighty. Next, we'll get NASA to issue knitted Cunning Hats to all astronauts as standard uniform. :)
