[Campaign Idea] Over My Dead Body

This simply is the best Traveller Mcguffin I have ever heard. It is going in my Black Book of Games To Run Someday. Unfortunately, it came from a player in a new game that I had already designed so I don’t feel like going back and fixing it. The scenario answers the age-old question of “Why are Nobles, or anyone for that matter, running around space for no apparent reason.”

TNS UPDATE
---------------------------
023-1105 IY

The highly-anticipated wedding between Marcus gaul-DeVroe, second heir of the gaul-DeVroe corporate empire, and Sirianna Men’gisk, the daughter of Tukera shipping magnate, Dagaur Men’gisk, has apparently failed dramatically. Eyewitness reports indicate that the wedding guests, all 1,434 of them, waited in the monumental amphitheater for almost two hours before the wedding was called off for lack of a Groom.

Anonymous sources indicate that Marcus gaul-DeVroe had been kidnapped, some sources indicate it was at his request, by the Groomsmen. The party hijacked the luxurious Fast-Yacht that was to carry the couple on their honeymoon and Jumped from local space early in the morning. The Yacht, christened the Excalibur, was custom-designed for speed, security and luxury by the Bride’s own father. Its current whereabouts are unknown.

There have been no official comments although rumors indicate that both families are in conniptions over the incident. The father of the Groom was reportedly overheard stating, “There will be a wedding. Have no doubt.”

--------------------

Noble or Navy official, arranged marriage, bachelor party of privileged young men who are sick of their lives, seeking a change. Groom doesn’t want to get married. They abscond with the beautiful wedding present, chased across the galaxy by bounty-hunters and all other sorts of riffraff.

-Change terms to either 3 or 2 years to get the skills needed.
-Party can be of mixed careers because nobility would enter armed forces or other areas and meet friends.

I love it.

Always a classic gambit. In one of my campaigns, Marquisse Miranda Goldstone was one of the characters, an ex-dilpomat with a talent for embezzlement & bribery. To advoid a family scandal, the family cut a deal with her. She was sent outside the Imperium & got a hefty allowance as long as she stayed outside the Imperium. Oh, by the way she had to do intelligence work now & then.

That would work quite well with the group I am most likely to run the next time I play. Indeed, that concept is a fine work of art, my hat's off to the author.

Came up during discussion with my PbP players on possible directions of a game. I already had an idea in place so couldn't use it but we had some fun discussing it.

First Adventure: Break the groom out of the hotel, race to the starport where their (predictably scruffy, shady, but loyal) dilettante friend had stashed a free trader.
