T5 SectorMaker for OS X

SectorMaker is a Macintosh application for Traveller5 that facilitates the creation of sector star charts with subsector names, world details, political allegiances and borders, and trade and communication routes.

Sector, subsector, and world maps, and map printing, is made possible by the use of Joshua Bell’s POSTER API at the Traveller Map website. A big thank you to Joshua for providing this great resource for Traveller fans.

SectorMaker star generation and world creation features follow the rules in the Charting the Stars chapter of the Traveller5 Core Rules.

The zip file which contains the application, a sample sector, and a PDF manual can be downloaded from here.

My Citizens, Mercenary, High Guard, Scouts and Merchant Prince apps for CT (see previous threads) are also available at the same website.

Let me know what you think.

BTW, I'm one of those unregistered developers so OS X will seem to not let you run the app. That's a changeable setting in the Security system preferences or you can just right-click on the app, select Open from the contextual menu, and train OS X to allow this app to run.

Under 10.9, that only works if you do not have it set for the highest or higher security levels. You might need to go to the security control panel, and tell it to allow it from there.

Feature requests:
  • Add ability to click on world on map to get to world listing
  • add ability to generate/regenerate a subsector separate from the sector

Great start...

Thanks, all, for the suggestions. I'll consider them for the next version. I've got about 200 hours in this thing so far, so I think I'll take a rest now. ;)

As per Far Future's Fair Use policy, I sent an email late last night to Marc letting him know about this app. He must be a night person and responded:

This looks very nice; it opened and I'm playing with it.
:)

Super cool!

Love the visual interface. Really easy to use.

A few comments:

- Import sec files!

- Add worlds post-generation

- The list of worlds would be easier to work with on a subsector basis, or at least have a Show All/Show Subsector filter

- Holy grail: clickable map. Click on a world in the map, and see its details on the left. Click on an empty hex to add a world. You get the idea.

Art,
This looks very neat. I don't have 10.7 unfortunately, only 10.6 so it's a no go for me.
But I do have your CT apps and have been using them regularly for the past 2 years or so. Great software and thanks a million for your time, effort and dedication.

Thanks! The latest version of Xojo that I'm using creates modern Cocoa apps instead of the old Carbon apps that my character generators used. This requires 10.7 as a minimum. Time marches on!

I don't know if these applications are under continued development but let me just say thank you and BRAVO! These are excellent tools; thank you for making them available.

As a slight aside, I just rediscovered TRAVELLER a couple weeks ago for the first time since high school (early 80's); in fact, I'm sure I still have my original circa 1981/82 boxed set and all the other supplements and adventures I collected for a few frantic years, stashed away in a box in my garage somewhere. Anyway, I've since purchased and downloaded the scanned classic original Traveller materials from DriveThruRPG and have re-immersed myself in the lore and arcana of the game! Now I just have to find a local group of friends to start actually playing again!

Thanks, Citizen!

I'll eventually get around to doing more but I'm involved in a bunch of other time consuming things right now.

Welcome onboard.

Fantastic

It is a great accomplishment. I do hope you continue to make it editable in the since of uploading cannon sectors.

This is bad-ass!

Amazing work.

I'm not sure if you know about the 'SectorMaker' scripts I and user 'forthekill' posted here on the forum in the last few years but if they are at all helpful to you in incorporating random generators into the tools (or for any other purpose including new postscript/pdf possibilities), have at them!

Congratulations - it's a really solid, engaging application!

Thanks! I need to go back and update the app to incorporate some new T5 errata and Travellermap changes that are causing some minor display problems. Busy right now, but sometime next year...

Love This

I just wanted to say this is a wonderful piece of work. It's very accessible with my screen reader too, something I can't say about T5 itself, unfortunately. I hope that can be worked on somehow, but for now I love random sectors :) Thank you!

I'm glad you can use it but it's nothing I did explicitly. :)
