100 Dton J1 cargo ship

This is the Type 1J1 cargo ship. Based upon data gleaned from from this thread.
I designed this ship to be the 100 ton counterpart to the Type A. Good for a group of 4 players. Or, just backdrop material. Designed using the SRD/Cepheus rules. It is a streamlined cylinder.

The 10Td bridge (+1 for electronics) breaks compatibility with LBB2 & HG but if you're not using those rule sets it's fine. Maybe claim the small-craft "computer replaces bridge but gets downrated one model number" rule to justify it in a Classic Traveller framework? Ref might buy off on it.

Thanks, I haven't done a CT ship since MT came out. I'll have to refresh my memory on that. I was surprised how much cargo space I got using Mgt1/SRD HG drive rules. To my knowledge no 100t J1 ship was published before in that rules set. (I'm probably wrong there but I never saw one).

Yes, that sounds like a correct/logical approach. In this case as the ship is as small as it gets and is a commercial vessel, the design was centered around being able to haul enough freight (inanimate & living) to be profitable while affording some operational flexibility and safety margins. One could shove an air/raft in and still have enough cargo space to be viable. There is enough ELB space to hold the maximum stateroom compliment in case of being stranded while waiting for help.

Mongoose 1st edition A drive is jump 2 (p108 in my "pocket" version), so no jump 1 there as A is the smallest drive (it is jump 2 in 100 tons, jump 1 in a 200 ton ship)

If we do a complete barebones design with the drives above, we can get a whopping 80 Dt cargo hold with a nominal cost of MCr 11.6.

No Jump fuel is carried, so demountable tanks in the cargo hold may be necessary. Still leaves 70 Dt usable.

A couple of 1 Dt modules allows swappable turrets, better sensors, collapsible tanks, or something...

Yes, for any tonnage. The system is designed to give the correct answer for the standard drives too. Thus if you use it to design a J2 for a 100t hull you get the same tonnage & cost as the type A J-drive from the tables.

There are two separate ship design systems, one for ships up to 2000 Dt and another for ships over 2000 Dt. And a third for small craft, just to make things simple...

Small ships use standard drives only, minimum A, hence J-2 at 100 Dt.

You can have a jump 1 drive in a 100t ship in HG, MT, TNE, T4, GT, GT:ISW, MgT1eHG, MgT2e HG. ...

Subsequently I looked in my Mgt1 HG and there were the rules to create the drive in question.

Nope. That isn't in the rules. Read again and quote the rule you are talking about if it is in your book. Using the HG rules you can recreate the "standard" off the shelf drives too as it is the same formula. At TL 9 they can make a J1 100T ship. The standard drives are just off the shelf examples.

The Cepheus Engine SRD does not allow for a 100 dTon Jump-1 ship, but it does make sense. It has a lot of cargo capacity, and could be considered a sort of small truck ship serving a cluster of Jump-1 worlds without a lot of population. I will have to think about modifying the Cepheus Engine rules/guidelines to allow for it. There are a few spots in my Out Rim sector where something like that would be quite useful for moving cargo back and forth.
